I always thought the show was kinda eh. The show did improve during it's later seasons, it kinda became a hybrid between early Adventure Time, Regular Show and Bob's Burgers.

Jay Howell was the main character designer on both shows (as well as being one of the co-creators of Sanjay & Craig).
The final character designs on Bob's Burgers are actually quite removed from Jay Howell's original designs. Generally speaking, Sanjay & Craig has a closer resemblence to Howell's original style.
