>203. THE GOSSIP LIFE 08/18
>The sequel to this movie is set to feature a changed up cast. The last set was such a super mess that the studio and the producers want to take out some of the worst offenders. It's also a chance to reduce the budget and the bottom line. We're unsure of how fans will react. "X-Men"

>Lets go back in the day. This actress was A list. Mostly movies and always quirky. When this group of people had a "pretty" movie she was not usually invited. When they needed reality and good acting they cast her. She has worked infrequently since her heyday. Producers and directors grew up with her movies and want to cast her, but the roles are generally a cameo or stunt casting. Nothing real. Then, along came this A list director. He had a project for her. He found out she knew this up and coming barely legal actor. Our director heard the actor is gay, but had not been able to close the deal no matter how many carrots he offered. He had a very very big carrot to offer and that is not some sexual innuendo. He had a big part in a franchise but the actor wasn’t interested in the casting couch route. Our director offered our actress a few roles here and there an even a guest gig in the franchise at some point if she could talk the actor into having sex with the director. For two months she worked on it and the actor, still a teenager at the time, hooked up with the director. The director cast the actor in the role. The director then cast our actress in a role to watch over the actor and make sure he stayed available to the director. For a year, that was her job. To monitor the sex life of the actor and make sure he only hooked up with the director. This guy is so strange. He did come through on the roles and the guest gig in the franchise though.

>This A-list actress refuses to wear the make-up necessary for a role she plays. At first, she claimed it was due to allergies, and when the make-up team offered her an alternative, her agent told the producers that it all hides her appearance too much and that it effects the marketability of the series and the actress. The worst part of it all? None of these excuses/reasons existed during the filming of first installment of the series when our actress wasn’t such a big star. The A-list director is clouded in scandal, but his usage of the casting couch hasn’t even remotely slowed down. Both of them, I'm sure. The first Iceman (who only ever acted in X1) actually sued him, as I recall.

While I've heard some things about Sophie Turner being something of a party animal, I've never heard of her being difficult to work with on set. English actors tend to take their work seriously. JLaw was already on her last film of her contract and clearly bored with the role, so she probably won't be asked back.

Funny how no one ever criticizes Patrick Stewart & James McEvoy about that, but Sophie Turner - younger & less experienced than either - is fair game, I guess.

Can't they just stop making X-men's movies? Or something with completely different characters, cast and director, like a new movie rather than a new installment in the franchise?

Most X-men movies are mediocre to average. This is not a big loss. And Singer should work again with a good writer. It's the only times he ever done anything good, when the script was very good to begin with.

Singer isn't a problem, he made a great film out of dofp despite the whole thing being a studio mandated reboot.

Apocalypse slipped in quality because of a shittier script. Fox will blame no Wolverine for its weaker box office though.

The only questionable/crap casting were Sophie and maybe that meme girl playing Psylocke. Singer isn't putting chicks on the casting coach so that smells like the typical Fox producer move of trying to gamble on locking up potential break out stars while they're still cheap.

No, because just like with Fantastic 4 they would lose the rights if they stop.

In any case X-men hadn't truly failed. So unlike with Fant4stic there is justification in keeping going. But it is true they are struggling with maintaining consistency. Well, at least they have Deadpool now.
>>

>>85648102

Unless it's a spin-off/solo movie of a character (like Sniktbub/Mercw/mouth) Magneto is here to stay. He's the only villain they care about. You can bet your ass he's going to be the villain of the next movie (or start out a good guy then *gasp* turn evil again).
>>
>>85648197
I just want to add that this is what all the studios are failing when they tried to create a marvel size movie universe. What you need isn't some oscar grade film that costs 250million dollars. What is important is to set a bare minimum standard.

You are not judged by your best film, but by your worst film. So what is most important is not to focus on blockbusters like BvS, but on keeping your cheapest films watchable.

This applies not just in Hollywood, but in everything else too. A hotel is judged by its cheapest room. A restaurant is judged by its cheapest meal. We all know that Thor2 and IM2 was bad, but are they BAD bad? No, they are "okay-bad".

What Sony and Fox need is to focus on the basics. Instead of dreaming of billion dollar profits, worry about getting 125million budget films done right.

Fox got Deadpool, but now they have a chance to screw it up with the sequel. If they failed to at least stay consistent with the sequel, if they tried to aim for the moon and fall flat on their faces, then they haven't learned their lesson. Focus on crossing the t's and doting the i's, getting a good job done. Make sure people get what their ticket's worth. That's all that the customers want.
>>
>>85648627
Why is that so unbelievable. They just made one without Wolverine. I'm actually pretty impressed that they kept the cameo quiet instead of trying to pretend he had a full role during promotion.
>>
>>85640821

X-men has one bad film and one bad/mediocre one that's still about as good as ultron or thor 2.

The cheaper ones they've done deadpool, wolverine 2013, and first class are fine. Deadpool might even be the worst out of those but it had a great marketing campaign.
>>
>>85649349
Yeah not her. The Sophie Turner thing is just like Terminator, pick someone whose popular and entirely unsuited to the role.
>>
>>85649375
>X-men has one bad film and one bad/mediocre one that's still about as good as ultron or thor 2.
See, the problem is that Wolverine Origins was SO bad that it taints everything else. I personally gave up watching X-men films because of it. Until that point I HAD watched every single X-men film, and Origins caused me to fall off that bandwagon. I am pretty sure I wasn't the only one.

I could give them another chance, but only if they get a really good review. That was the only reason I went to watch Deadpool, because the internet was singing its praises days after it was released. I thought "wait, you are telling me it doesn't suck? I might have to pay money to watch it then".
>>
>>85649472
So what you're just mad about Wolverine Origins. Meddling from the studio ruined that movie anyway, pg-13 rating with forced comedy and an inconsistent tone, forced Deadpool origin, forced mutant cameos.
>>
>>85649724
>So what you're just mad about Wolverine Origins. Meddling from the studio ruined that movie anyway, pg-13 rating with forced comedy and an inconsistent tone, forced Deadpool origin, forced mutant cameos.
That's what you don't get. It isn't about having one bad film, it is about having the bad film set the tone for how bad things can get. Origins was literally not worth the ticket price, and by having it existing it reminds us that we can have another Origin at any moment.

I am not saying I have given up on Fox. I gave them money for Deadpool didn't I? It's just that we need several decent films before I can start trusting them again.
>>
>>85649118
They made two without Wolverine. First Class only had a cameo just like Apocalypse.

But then they'll probably look at this chart:
http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/franchise/X-Men#tab=summary

And think that they need to have more Wolverine and Deadpool.

>But then they'll probably look at this chart:

But some of the lowest box office films had "wolverine" in the title!

If I know nothing about X-men, I would have interpreted Wolverine as box office poison, if all I had was that chart to make a decision.
>>
>>85650149
No they'd think... "Wolverine solo films don't sell... But X-Men films without Wolverine don't sell.... Therefore Wolverine films need to have more X-Men in it!"

Obviously the real solution is not to overthink it and not fuck up terribly but I'm not believing they could do that.

Then it is very possible that SHE doesn't know the difference either. There is a reason Marvel changed their logo to differentiate their studio from other Marvel film productions. Fox in particular had been intentionally trying to benefit from the confusion as much as they can.

Both of those are true, but it would have been the studio who turned down the alternatives.

Latex is what's known as a sensitizing agent: when you're exposed to it, it provokes your immune system to respond, but each subsequent exposure provokes a worse response. For most people exposure is so small that it never becomes a problem; for a full-body covering of latex, worn 16 hours a day for several weeks, you're instantly risking anaphylaxis.

The alternative to latex is greasepaint. Greasepaint has to be re-adjusted after every shot (not just every scene), and generally adds so much to the cost of production because of the time involved that most producers won't pay for it over latex - plus it looks shitty. Because most producers have a poor understanding of how liability insurance works, they actually think the production's insurance will pay out for any health costs the actor suffers (in fact, the insurers would probably refuse to pay out and it would become a direct lawsuit to the studio - one which would ruin the career of the producers concerned).

With no-name actors you can basically say "sure it'll kill you, but think of the exposure". With someone who actually has fans and the money to sue the studio steps in and says no on their behalf, but this then becomes "the actor" when it's reported because the producer is bitter about not being able to kill someone for art.

I imagine such gossip was all the rage about Jackie Coogan when the Child Actor's Bill went through.
>>
>>85653300

>>
>>85653300
>So of course, expect Deadpool 2 to have all the suits sticking their hands in it trying to make it more marketable, appeal to a wider audience, and general just fucking everything up.
The director is trying to reject any budget increases. He basically knows that budget-increase = losing creative control. It is amusing to see someone trying to refuse more money.
>>
>>85653321
They didn't meddle because they didn't think Deadpool was going to do jackshit.

They basically only did it because Ryan Reynolds and his group basically forced them to let them make a movie, and then gave them a shoestring budget, which got cut down even more part-way into filming.

They basically had no confidence in Deadpool and just let Reynolds have it as a side project because "It might make SOMETHING" while they put their efforts into X-Men: Apocalypse.

Now that they see "Jesus Christ this thing made 10x it's budget." And then they're also thinking "How can we get more money out of this. We need to get MORE people to see it" and are going to meddle the fuck out of it.
>>
>>85653300
>expect Deadpool 2 to have all the suits sticking their hands in it trying to make it more marketable, appeal to a wider audience, and general just fucking everything up.
I can't help but feel this is just the suits wanting to give themselves credit if Deadpool2 makes money. They KNOW that the film would make money without their meddling, but if they don't meddle then they can't take the credit for its success. They are a bunch of leeches.
>>
>>85653384
Scenario 1:
No meddling, Deadpool2 made ten times its budget. The Suits can't put it on their list of accomplishments because they left it alone.
Scenario 2:
Meddling. Deadpool2 only makes 5 times its budget. The Suits take all the credit for the film's success even though they actually made it worse.
Scenario 3:
Massive meddling. Deadpool 2 barely make twice its budget. The Suits blame the director and pretend they are not responsible for the destruction of the IP.

On in one of two ways: either they pay the majority of the budget on CGI, or they make their only A-lister a background character who barely appears.

You can't fuck around with latex and anybody with a brain knows that. This is not like putting on a condom: that full body shit will straight up kill you eventually. The studio called this off because they didn't want to pay extra for CGI (on top of Singer's famously out of control budgets) and they didn't want to go down as the studio who killed Jennifer Lawrence at the height of her fame. >he made a great film out of dofp
You have every right to like, even love this movie, but saying dofp is great? Seriously?
Should I care about your opinion on Singer when you can't evaluate correctly the quality of a movie such as dofp?

Do you realize how terrible 90% of Fox productions are. They can't even make a decent alien with Ridley Scott back on it.

Also since most directors are swamped with projects and hate working on studio franchise films with rushed production schedules the go to for these things are no names and has-beens. Its like rolling stacked dice more so than it is a guarantee to do better.

Remember these are blind items, the names are guesses. So >>85653288 is almost certainy Spider-Man rather than Captain Marvel, for instance.
