Not really, once you leave the reservations things change. Those parts of the country seem to keep culture alive through gas stations that are like 3 star motels without rooms, tourist traps with cheap plastic souvenirs and a fair markup, national parks that sell bison shit and Native American arts and crafts projects at a huge markup, and billboards that advertise passive-aggressive threats of hell unless you accept Mormon Jesus into your life.

Yet whenever I drive through the Hopi reservation, it's like time has stopped. Same people in the diner, same hotels, same gift shops, and same strays that eat my leftover taco. Only thing that seems to change is the waistlines.
