Pearl is super traumatized. All the gems are, their leader of 5000 years died like a decade ago. This is, for gems, the equivalent of the week after your mom died.

Pearl just gets it hardest because, as a Pearl, she instinctually wants an owner. She belonged to someone else, almost certainly pink diamond, before Rose 'freed' her and gave Pearl her own life... but Pearl just latched on to Rose and called that freedom.

Now Pearl is adrift, truly free, and she never wanted this. Rose wanted this for her. And Rose is gone.

Pearl takes a right hand position to Garnet, but its not really the same thing as what she had with Rose.
