People get nearsighted, like the term suggests, because they focus their vision on things near to them like books. People who spend all their time reading are both more likely to need glasses for nearsightedness and more likely to be smart because they enjoy reading.

I've been near sighted as fuck since I was like 8 and have had to where glasses constantly because of it. And I'm not an avid reader, I rarely watched tv, and when I played games I was on my couch far the fuck away from the tv. The only reason I ever got close to anything, or looked like I was face planted in a book was because I already couldn't see it from a distance. And as time has gone on I've lost my near sight as well, I'll probably need bifocals by the time I'm 40. Also, both my parents wear glasses and both their parents and my baby sister. So it's probably hereditary.
