Lapis knows enough about attraction that she can identify Ruby and Sapphire's flirting.

I kind of have a feeling that older gems like Lapis were more free to have relationships with other gems, whereas new gems like Peridot don't even understand what that means. She completely misses the point of the CPH characters' relationships and Garnet's, for instance.

The only other Gems we've seen expressing romantic feelings are Rose, Pearl, and Garnet, all of whom are pre-Homeworld social restructuring.

At first fans were saying that Jasper was preying on Lapis' hate of the Crystal Gems, but now we know that Jasper absolutely despises them just as much. Jasper is supposed to embody how perspective makes everything look different. None of what Jasper says is technically wrong, especially her line about Rose only taking in reject gems. She just isn't looking at it the right way and got the motivation wrong, because she doesn't yet understand the idea of compassion and worth beyond usefulness.

Having Steven heal her corruption is just about the only way to move forward, though. That's probably why they did it. Jasper has to have a reason to not want to kill Steven on sight in order for him, and the CGs, to start to reach her. Seeing his compassion firsthand is the easiest and pretty much only way to do that.
