I find this tiresome specifically because, for good or for ill, Jane Foster is actually a really important part of the Thor movies. She is literally the only reason Thor gives a shit about Earth, and choosing between kingship on Asgard and living with Jane has been one of his major continuing themes.

Just dropping that is like glossing over the fact that Steve Rogers is a man out of his own time. You lose a good part of your established character in doing so.

Basically, Lindsay Lohen is a complete and total nightmare to work with. Besides the drugs, she'd just not show up to the set for days or weeks on end (she ran off to party with Lady Gaga at one point), or would refuse to do certain scenes (she'd agreed to appear nude for a crucial scene in the film, it was even in her contract, and then said no out of nowhere until the director stripped naked himself and begged her on his knees).
