I just don't think it's so weird for Clark to quote Sun Tzu. He is a journalist, and a humanist as you said, and I have a hard time believing someone as naturally clever as he was as a kid wouldn't have wanted to read some stuff like that. If I was Clark as a teen, I would think reading some stuff from Plato would be normal, at least, for Clark, I mean. Even Jon in this book is written to be slightly more knowledgable than the average ~10 year old.

He did, even in the movies, i think that it would be normal for someone that perceives the world in a really different way to us to try to understand human logic and thinking by reaching to literature and philosophy.
Citing Sun Tzu to his son seems normal, since he probably was a really curious kid himself and had the hability to read an entire book store in his free time. I don't think it's out of character, but i do believe it's not the right context. I like to think of Superman talking about philosophy while his son has an existencial problem back at home or just talking and chilling with bruce or in a meeting of the league, or even while speaking with weird aliens about peace but not in the context of a fight.
