What sort of font do comics use?

I feel like there are a couple of similar ones stylistically (and I know they have names but I never actually tried to look it up beyond seeing jargon used in passing). Like you can see a page and know it's a DC or Marvel book sometimes even if you don't recognize the characters. But some letterers make up their own as well. Just kind of depends I guess.

How common is Comic Sans in comics?

Comic book letterers use ther own handwritting but a certain technique is required to make it look good.

Before the '00s, they mostly used a gizmo called an ames guide and lettered by hand.

Generaly hand lettered.

You know for how much of a big deal it was its odd that they just had the artist letter watchmen.
