Like it or not, Billy could be the "Superman" this Universe needs, bringing some levity to the world and an actual proof of concept for superheroics that makes the civilians of the DCEU actually enjoy the Super Heroes like the ones in the comics do. I mean, we are kind of told in BvS that the civilians like Superman, but we are never given any proof of that.

He could also be a fun way to introduce more world building and meta-humans to the movies, speically through Billy's radio show if they keep that. Imagine, though to struggling rating, a Wizz Radio hires Billy to do a nightly newscast as a gimmick ("The Wonderful Radio Boy" style shit) after Billy gets them some close up footage of Shazam, but then he decides to make the show about Meta-human news, and he becomes a major hit. Billy champions super heroes and this crazy new world we leave in, where legends come to life and adventure awaits all that go looking for it.

I'd be curious to see a film franchise that grapples with an actor for Billy who will inevitably age and can't stay a kid forever. Though I'm sure there are also Cap comics that deal with the same themes.

It's an okay story on it's own, but Captain Marvel loses something by being "updated" to 2011. New 52 creates a schism for a lot of properties between it's pre-flashpoint self and the New 52 version; Suicide Squad and Shazam falls into this. Where the redesign loses some core aspects of the characters. Like how Squad stopped feeling expendable and lost it's gravitas, or how Shazam doesn't have the unique Golden Age feel to it.

Hence why people want a movie that better reflects the character as a whole, as opposed to an admittedly good, one-shot TPB that came out of Diane Nelson's push for brand synergy.

John Favreau is responsible for RDJ as Iron Man. They're long time friends and Favreau had to convince Marvel to give him the part because studios were still hesitant to work with him after his substance abuse problems. The woman in charge of casting is more responsible for Chris Evans and Hemsworth, who are both below average actors who can't carry a movie off of pure charisma like RDJ can.
