It Hurts is actually a reboot of an earlier comic called God Dammit - read it here before continuing - http://www.gobolatula.com/gd/

That comic originally ended with Pasqualo returning to Earth after a timeskip - see gd037.gif through gd042.gif and gf044.gif through gd046.gif - but the author ditched everything after the climax. GD can now be interpreted as ending with Pasqualo being sent not to another time but to another Time - a cosmic reboot. But why would God just give someone capable of killing God another shitty life? Answer: GOD DIDN'T. GD Pasqualo wasn't rebooted into IH Pasqualo - he was rebooted into a girl named Jenny Penguin. Subconcious memories of the old universe resulted in her marrying her pre-reboot father. Her son takes after her, but since his life is shitty, he's become a rerun of GD Pasqualo. We've seen someone who seems to remember the old timeline - Satan. When Pasqualo declared his goodness, Satan mocked him for it, thinking he was the same god-killer he knew. And when Jenny declared he intention to kill God, his reaction shows he figured it out.

At first the Space Rhinos were going to be a bit more fleshed out before this point, but me and my buddy Josef (my editor / writer helper outer / advice guy) sorta realized that they were more of an EVENT than actual people. I wanted them to represent just the inevitable end of our buddies. When writing their dialogue I just thought "big mean comical bully jerk" and wrote funny jerk dialogue.

You know, I'm not sure! I'm always a bit nervous to really look into it. There's a thread on Something Awful that's active along with threads here on /co/ and that seems to be where most of my readers have come from. I have a deep appreciation for both of those places.
