"Surrender yourself in 24 hours or watch this world suffer the consequences" and Superman still gave himself over to Zod after he heard this lunatic threaten to kill everybody unless he got his own way and when Superman was on his ship Zod tricked him and then put him on the dissection table. If Zod was reasonable and had a noble goal, why would he even be a villain? He's a mentally unstable product of an oppressive eugenics program created by a regressive and self-destructive society. Zod's programming literally made him stupid because he's trying to apply military culture and decision making to everything. He is able to overpower the sensory noise on Earth by focusing on his fist, a symbol of power. It says everything you need to know about his characer, that's how he solves his problems.

Well, with some acclimatizing you could survive on Siberia, but I doubt you would like to live there.
