I really like the idea behind the new NOWer lineup, where each member's a successor - spiritual or otherwise - of one of the founders.
It's kind of hard to believe the others working with Iron Doom, and I'd much rather have Thunderstrike or Sif or even Beta Ray Bill than FemThor, but on the whole, I like it.

The team from the late '70s comes to mind. Cap and Iron Man for friendly antagonism, Vision/Scarlet Witch for good relationship, Wasp/Pym for bad relationship, Beast for fun and (not pictured here) Wonder Man for back-from-the-dead angst.

To this day Hank McCoy I think is a better Avenger than X-Man.

Triathlon and Silverclaw didn't get officially added until the third year whose arc was basically "this is a terrible lineup and the Avengers are going to pieces."

Even so it's not one of the very worst lineups. I miss that the Avengers used to do stories actively addressing the issue of affirmative action (here and also when Falcon was forced onto the team because of diversity regulations).
