Superman IS a Mary Sue.

Superman has too much power. He has the power to never feel a moment of fear should he choose. He has the power to live the life of a human being who never has to fear homelessness, unemployment, car crashes, muggings, or even mild discomfort due to an improperly set thermostat. He has the power to never, ever be afraid of anything ever.

But he chooses to actually put himself in the way of threats that can kill him. He has to go out of his way to put himself in harm's way, and he does, because he rises to the challenges only he is capable of. Yeah, Superman is a Mary Sue, but so is Darkseid. So is Brainiac. So is Mongul. So is Doomsday.

Superman has the power to never, ever encounter any of these things and live a perfectly normal, boring life of no fear, but he chooses to help those who can't defend themselves. And even that's not his most amazing trait. His most amazing trait is that he does it and never asks for a thank you. He never belittles people who need him, and he never insults the people who insult him.

Call Wolverine a Mary Sue and he'll flip you off and maybe smack you. Call Batman a Mary Sue and he'll frown at you sternly. Call Superman a Mary Sue and he'll smile, shrug his shoulders, and probably apologize. He'll say he's sorry you feel that way, but he's just doing what he think is right.

Superman is pic related, and that's why he's important.

The abrahamic god seems to be connected to "the source" putting him above alot of other universal entities though it doesn't mention it's relation to the monitors. Other earthly deities such as Zeus exist but there power doesn't seem to be on par with the christian god. Entities like darkseid likewise are probably more powerful or at the very least on par with zeus but take more active roles but don't seem to reach the level of the christian god. The emotional entities are technically natural they were formed by emotions expressed by the first beings to express emotions but aren't really supernatural.

Superman is fucking boring because "just a really nice guy" doesn't work for a character when that character also just huts things really hard without using much in the way of why or how he hits them really hard. At the risk of being /a/, One Punch Man is the only real way you can do that kind of character right. He doesn't care for saving the world and the story is largely focused on the people who actually can and do get beaten quite a lot.

Trying to play Superman straight doesn't work and the "he doesn't belong here" Lex Luthor angle was really neat, but ultimately played out.
