I assume Charlie was fine after this because Joker knew there was no way he could save face on this. Murder the guy and he's still the man who got one over on joker and people are more likely to investigate the entire incident.

Now if charlie went around bragging? yeah he'd get ganked but it's far more likely that he'd have gone back to his life and minded his own business in which case the Joker can just write that shit off and pretend it never happened.

This episode was almost perfect. All it needed was Harley seeing Charlie make such a chump of the Joker in the alley and start fawning over her "Mistah C".
