The only people here that get excited for Bendis have never read a story where he's writing a character they like or following up on a previous book they read.

With that being said, a lot of people that are getting into comic books gravitate towards him simply because Marvel puts the best artists on his books. I mean if you're going to spend $5 on something it might as well be the best looking one.

If you're comparing him to filmmakers, Chris Nolan is a better analogy. Auteur with an incredibly distinctive style whose more personal early work as a hungry young artist is slowly being outweighed by later stuff that feels manufactured and where their deficiencies are more glaringly apparent.

Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil, love them or hate them, are two of the three defining Marvel superhero books of the Aughts (Ultimates being the other one).
