Stan writes a great comic, which he does all the fucking work for.
I love his lettering and storytelling.

As a person, he's incredibly kind and really humble. I wrote to him once and he wrote back and it blew my mind that someone as accomplished as him would take the time to do that.

He's been through some rough shit in his life, he really deserves the best.

I wish there was a good animated Usagi adaptation. At the very least, we're getting the hard-cover omnibus volumes, which is nice.

When the SJW types talk about representation, and cultural diversity, it's always some Bendis type shit, or some multicolored hypebeast. But I've NEVER heard them mention Sakai.

I've met him a couple times. First was at my first SDCC where he gave me a free Usagi Yojimbo sketch (which in hindsight was amazing). I saw him a few months ago at PHXCC and saw he had drawn an Usagi symbol on his luggage, which I thought was adorable.

He's a cool guy. I've never been able to get into his books though.

I've met the gent a few times as a member of a con staff. He's a great guy, smart, funny, and self-effacing. And of course, his work is brilliant. Nothin' but respect.

He's really nice to talk to in person. I met him at SDCC in... maybe 2007? On briefly, though. But he signed one of the volumes I had, and put in a little sketch on a card that he did right in front of me. I mentioned to him that I began leaning towards cartooning rather than drawing musclebound capes when I saw the little story Wizard printed years ago about Usagi returning the bone carving to a soldier he met. His body of work is so extensive that he didn't really even recall it being printed in Wizard, which kind of amazed me and spoke to the sheer volume of work he has done.

Really, he's inspirational in a lot of ways, even if you don't like his style.
