Said no one ever
Why do people keep reading Dumbing of Age?

Neither did your mother.

The Retro-futuristic aspect of Gotham was still cool.

Art-deco is, and always will be, fucking awesome.

It's not as good as its reputation suggests. In fact, most episodes are dull, and it usually takes the Joker or another classic rogue to spice things up. However, when the show is good, it's really damn good.

The show had high highs and low lows.
Yeah, there was Mr. Freeze and the Poker episode, but there was also A Batman in My Basement and the one with the sewer king.

The only stuff that didn't age well was the HARDAC explanation stuff because of the technology angle. Everything else is fine.

I liked both the Sewer King and Batman in my Basement episodes. Then again I read boys adventure novels and crap like that when I was a kid.

Honestly? It wasn't that good at the time. As an animated show it's pretty inconsistent.
As radio plays, a lot of those stories would be flawless. They're simple, they have elegant solutions, and they're well acted. But as cartoons they took place in a city which was always noticeably empty and often very badly drawn.
That opener won awards and they were right to spend all that time, money and love on making it, but it really gave a false impression of how good the rest of the show's looks were. Plus over time it just kind of dragged on and ran out of fresh ideas.

That's really Burton's legacy.
