Honest question: does anyone really give a shit about the Bayformers series? Critics despise them for being terrible, I assume Transformers fans despise them for completely shitting on the franchise, and it seems like the vast majority of its audience is only there for a two hour distraction explosion filled distraction in an air conditioned theater.
>>
>>85139131
Foreign countries do. There's not much competition in the "giant robots fisting each other" genre, and the last one being Pacific Rim still doesn't have a sequel in the works.

Also there's a following for the first trilogy's scrapmetal aesthetic which up until now riles up angry debates in traditional vs present.

>>
>>85139310
The animated movie's connected to Bayformers lore, and apparently the new writers and the signs in the shootings hinting on flashbacks along with Barricade's return are going to actually try and retcon/rebuild the lore.

Don't know how but they'll just do. Paramount doesn't want to let the current series reboot.

He's a practical user of pyrotechnics, not Zack Snyder. For whatever reason there's three sightings of Barricade and the cons without any action set pieces (so far for the two, Barricade had his first action set piece with Bumblebee and a couple of other London police cars).

Bay likes to detract from the established for some reason. Closest would be Ratchet still being a medic, Bee being yellow and Brawl being a tank.
>>

Getting laughs at the forum speculation that he was just blinded and crawled away after his legs were blown, making him the Kenny of the movies where his running gag is dying in odd-numbered movies.

I remember back in 2007 when people cared way more about taking a property in a different direction. I still like the 07 one and the last one wasn't the worst thing ever.
>>
>>85139668

I can't help it. Transformers taught me and my brother English. It was what bounded us at 6 am before school because it was the only thing playing that early besides the news or a Spanish drama. I can't stand that Bay made Prime into a murdering monster. Still not over it yet.
>>
>He actually kept Hot Rod
Even as far as Transformers names go, I always thought that one was especially shitty. It's equivalent to calling Optimus "Semi" or Ratchet "Fleet Vehicle".
>>
>>85139889
I still think the opening of the 07 one was incredible. Blackout's transformation and decimation of the military base was perfect.
>>
>This bayformer looks worse than that bayformer

They all look the same, that's one of the major problems.
>>
>>85139889
Meh, I preferred the third one as more exciting than the second while pretending than an hour-half of Cade's family wasn't in it for the fourth movie.

While I don't really trust Bay anymore, there's new writers in it ( some of which wrote Antman) and the Benghazi film wasn't too bad. Also, Bay has been going all out in social media promotions. He's been taking videos of the set, talking on stream at facebook and even said Barricade when passing by the police car.
>>
>>85139989
Not really, Hot Rod just seemed like being Lockdown and Bumblebee's lovechild, or like a protoform who decided to put on SOME car kibble.

I'm still hoping that it's just unfinished concept art because even as an apologist for Bayformers designs, that's still pretty ugly.

It's a different incarnation. There's a lot of Optimus Primes in different cartoons with his personality being one of Superman or Captain America.

They haven't been self aware of Prime's murderous actions until the fourth where he goes full angst against the humans and being tired of war and backstabbers in general.

Megatron's death though was the highlight of the Bayformers series.

He's more emotional in the fourth. Basically he
-when he was woken up the first thing on his mind was going out to find and help the other hunted Autobots
-mourned about Ratchet's death and punched the ground in frustration against the humans
-Had a cool banter with Galvatron
-Talked with Cade about losing faith in the future of himself and the humans
-Killed his first human to save Cade from getting shot point blanked, only to get stabbed by Lockdown in the process.
-He does stab Lockdown in the back and literally sliced him open while saying HONOR

Animation isn't too bad in some spots, but others it feels clunky and almost stuttered. The voices are definitely leaving a lot to be desired, either sounding too emotional for usual TF characters, or just not quite fitting the characters (the Con who gets killed sounded really weird like some gangster than a Con), and the dialogue is meh ("Nerd" just doesn't many any sense as an insult, or the whole "You're a killer for beating me!" bullshit).

The whole premise seems interesting, but I can't see this quite being as well done as the other shows.

The problem is that Prime didn't keep quipping shit every time he offed a Con in the first movie. Second and on, he's pulling borderline Nathan Drake quips when he kills most enemies like we'll somehow not find him cool unless he utters things like "Give me your face" like he's a psychopath. Him killing is fine, that's to be expected in a literal war, but quipping for every kill just borders on being edgy.
>>
>>85143743
>Quipping
How exactly outside of ROTF is he quipping? In the first one he just flat out kills Bonecrusher, in the third he gives a response to Megatron's truce offer while he gives a final remark to Sentinel Prime, not to mention he just yelled GRAAAAHH, YOU DIE when killing Shockwave and his pets, and said absolutely nothing when he killed Lockdown.

>>
Not that I don't hate these fucking movies, or think that the designs after the first one are mostly shit.

BUT it is your own problem for not being able to tell the robots apart, you're probably the same nerds that can't play or follow sports because you lack the co-ordination

Hell even if you play some action video games you should be able to tell what's going on

NOW the real problem is alot of the scenes don't have any geography, the action isn't too fast, the scene it self actually doesn't make any sense, with the same transformers (end fight transformers 2 being the biggest culprit) literally being in two places at once.

This is why I think you guys get confused, you think that things are happening too fast when in actual fact, even in slow motion the scene wouldn't make sense, even if the characters looked great the scene wouldn't make sense.

Now Transformers 4 does have good geography in the scene, no teleporting, some decent team work, no duplicates (apart from the fodder villains who are supposed to be like that) and if you still couldn't follow that fight, you might just be stupid or old.
>>
>>85144386
Shame TF4 had really bad story handling. It felt like three movies in one, and the worst part is that for the fourth movie most of the shots are focused on the humans than the robots in the Galvatron fight and the first LockdownxPrime fight.
>>
I'm still not convinced that anybody who feels Bay is "Raping their childhood" or anything like that is or has ever been a Transformers fan

Chinks love them, mostly because they are an entire nation of peasants.

There's a few die hard Bay fans in the TF fandom but their argument is mostly "all Transformers is bad but the Bay movies had the most money spent on them, ergo they are the best." That said the toyline for the movies have been shrinking since ROTF and Hasbro doesn't make any money on the movies at all, so they're obviously not very profitable for Hasbro.
>>
>>85139278
But there's only one combiner in all the Bay movies.
>>
>>85139526
There are several reasons, but no good ones. Everything comes down to Hollywood arrogance.

When Bay was developing TF1 he hired an artist who designed robots like the ones we have now- as messy masses of triangles. Industrial Light & Magic did the CG, and due to them moving tech wankery they wanted to design all these messy robots to actually Transform. So unlike in the series or toys there was no shell hidden under the vehicle body- the only spots of color that could show up are bits of the altmode, so they needed to chop it up into tiny pieces.

That's also why Optimus has flames- on the toys the trailer hitch is always the blue, but real trailer hitches are mostly unpainted, so in Bayformers they needed some exterior blue. They also didn't want vehicles to have "abnormal" color schemes, which is why everybody always looks drab save Optimus (who is probably contractually obligated to look similar.)

So there you have it- they all look like absolute shit because "it might be cool."

A lot of this got lifted in AoE, where there's a lot more of an armor design theme going on. IMO it is head and shoulders above the other three.

Baysplosion is a hack director who only chooses actresses based on how much he wants to bone them. (Read up on how he treats them on set. Guy's a fucking creep.) They're over-designed, the jokes are stale and predictable and at times completely juvenile. (Seriously? Devastator has balls? Talk about your low-hanging fruit.) He pays so little attention to the original characters it's insulting. I honestly cannot tell half the fucking robots apart half the time, because they all just look like jumbled messes of too many parts with vague colors to indicate who is what. (Prowl died and I didn't even realize it was supposed to be him until they said his name.)

And let's not forget, the stories are getting more pathetic and more cookie-cutter "we need to get the macguffin to stop the bad guys from something something Earth is somehow important to all of Cybertron for 10 different reasons, literally none of them being energon. But we'll just keep that from the humans that Optimus keeps saying he wants to protect, because fuck them, they don't need to know about all the danger they're in.

Also, Bumblebee is not Bumblebee. I refuse to see him as the lovable, plucky and optimistic sidekick he always was before. What's wrong with him being a Volkswagon Beetle? Or at least a dunebuggy or something. And every madeup, non-cannon character they create is even worse. The twins were fucking stupid. I don't give a shit if people think they're racist or whatever, they were just annoying and completely unnecessary to the story. Likewise with that little tiny thing that, for some reason, wanted to hump the human girl's leg.

Finally, the movies aren't about the robots. At all. The humans have so much more screen time and are way, way more important than they should be in a movie called Transformers.

Not saying it's good, but I'm saying it's the only good thing the series has, and it's not really a direct adaptation of the character as they've taken liberties with him, just like nearly every named robot in the series, though unlike the latter Optimus has been in the development spotlight more than the others, and while it's not the best you'll get, it's certainly entertaining to see where this murder warlord will go to next.

Though they could've given him a lot more screentime, the fact that he was offering a truce was pretty much him being a shell of his former self, being reduced to Sentinel's bitch and pretty much wanting a partnership in the middle of a failing invasion.

So yeah if Optimus hadn't killed him I would've been more pissed than watching an hour of ROTF and AoE's teenage buttservice.

Starscream hardly even had any secretly trying to usurp Megatron moments. Fuck's sake, he never even failed Megatron for the last time. What a fucking crock of shit.

Well you've got to be touched in the head to like the aesthetic. But the toy industry was riding high during that time period, so there was a lot more money to be spent per toy. It made for some good figures but a lot of them suffer from the grotesque artstyle- about the only good ones are non-movie characters like the HA Scouts, Bludgeon, or Mindwipe.

Around that time you also have RTS, Universe, and Classics which have similar levels of engineering and actual designs, so Bayformers is pretty unnecessary.

So? Once again I'm not praising the Bayverse, but his possible closet homosexuality is none of my concern, and toilet humor? Like I said, not the worst thing I've endured during my time in the TF fandom....although it is a low point particularly in Bayformers 2, that movie is the worst and most will agree

> I honestly cannot tell half the fucking robots apart half the time, because they all just look like jumbled messes of too many parts with vague colors to indicate who is what.
Sounds like a personal problem...I have no problem telling the robots apart, the real issue is that barely any of them resemble their namesake which is what makes it confusing

Anyway, the movies aren't great....they're hardly even good, they're shlocky summer blockbuster bullshit. It's a personal problem for them too, it's also a meme. Most of the bots are distinguishable from one another, if you can't tell the difference you're retarded. Like I said, telling them apart is not the issue, telling which character they're supposed to be is.

I'm being combative because honestly you seem like a fair weather fan, not someone who's actually known the ups and downs of being a TF fan LONG before Michael Bay.

The Bay movies are quite literally the worst thing about the entire franchise. Transformers has always been about the characters first, so making a movie that runs counter to that is objectively making a bad Transformers movie.

Sorry, but designs should actually look like comprehensible shapes at the bare minimum. When doing adaptations they should at least resemble what they're adapting.

If you make a Superman movie where Superman is a bearded 50 year old black man in a Hawaiian shirt with a shotgun and no powers, you have made a bad Superman movie. No amount of whining about how "Y...you just hate it because you actually like the thing I'm shitting on" changes that.

Yeah, okay, it's dumb with poor writing, and the designs could be slightly better (I wish the Decepticons had different colors so you could tell them apart, but I don't like the 80's design, too blocky and silly), but it's a fun action movie with great fight scenes and good CGI. Not every movie has to be or needs to be Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey or some other artsy film. It doesn't have to be something that ivy league critics can jerk off to, movies are whatever people want them to be.

And before any of you say Michael Bay is a money whore or raped your childhood or whatever, remember that the Transformers cartoon only existed to sell toys. Secondly, it's not like he ruined anything, since Transformers is just repeats of storylines:

>WHOA, Starscream is gonna betray Megatron! Again!

I don't know why you'd think these designs would have much appeal to kids in a world where anime is more ubiquitous. You walk into Barnes and Noble, and you see much cooler looking robots in their model kit section

I grew up with Beast Wars and Robots in Disguise, but moreover animé like Gundam and Big O ; I tried to watch the G1 cartoons but man the designs where just so bland. I get why these would have appeal to kids in the 80's before animé was more of a common thing and you only had a few like Voltron and Robotech, but these didn't age well at all. They should get some actual Japanese mecha designers to do tF designs. The later G1 animes did, and they look so much better.

Yet Samurai Prowl, inexperienced failure Optimus Prime, and punk asshole Bumblebee are fine, apparently. The animated cast are more intended to be adaptations of the g1 characters.

I can't really see movie cast as truly being intended as G1 adaptations. Yeah there's lip service with the names; but its really only the Autobot cast and Starscream/Megatron. Hasbro had already muddled up most of those names for years anyway. To me, the movies are just another name shuffle like we got in the years leading up to it. It feels like the characters where designed first and then names applied after, like in armada.

Since I'm not a fucking dumb casual like you, I know that the TF designs from the UT where all mainly handled by Hasbro in America, under Aaron Archer. Sure, the shows where animated in Japan, but that wasn't my point. You flew off in autistic rage before processing that.

I was talking about the actual designs being done by Japanese mecha deigners. Take Starsaber for example; He was designed by Kunio Okawara of Gundam fame. The early American toon designs, by the way, are simplified and goofy looking versions of Japanese designs.

It's just bad.

Like, I can't see any reason why someone would get excited over that. The designs are too samey. Back with the first movie, it kinda sucked that they took such a departure from what made Transformers & giant mecha in general cool and that many of the designs were overly busy and hard to discern, but at least it was something new.

There's almost no character to these designs at all. The original Hot Rod had tons of it in spades. And fuck, it's not HARD to translate that design into something more "realistic", even if you had to use some degree of the shitty Bayformer aesthetic. This one is fine for a grunt or minor character, but not something you get super excited about. The only redeeming thing is that it reminds me a bit of Mazinger.

This reminds me of that panel of Carol revealing the Guardians of the Galaxy people have been making fun of. It's meant to be this "Aw shit yeah" moment, but who's saying that? Fans of the original Hot Rod? It looks nothing like him, isn't a cool new take. Fans of the movies getting another cool new movie bot? But he looks too much like the others, samey alt mode, samey colour scheme, everything.

Transformers movies are such a huge excercise in wasted potential.
>>

When I look back at it, Grimlock was the only one who was pissed at Prime for threatening them while the other dinobots just spectated with Drift and Crosshairs.

Maybe he knew Grimlock wouldn't care about anything other than freedom. Who knows, it's a Bay script. It was no secret that he hated the Dinobots so they probably won't appear in TF5 to see if they had any more connection to the Knights.
>>
>>85166535

It's not that they literally look all the same, it's that they don't really have any discernable character to their designs. And someone unfamiliar with the movies could easily mix them up. A lot harder with just about every other transformers ever.

Cybertron is a dead and barren world, why bother going back? Anyone new just listened to Optimus' rally at the end of TF1 and flew to Earth.

Can't argue about the hard-on for the military, though.

Not really, you're just nitpicking on Bay's fetish for army guys. The movies have all delved on sci-fi mysticism and lore, just not as stable as other TF lore. Look at TF2 and TF3, they introduced space bridge teleportation, harversters and the Primes. TF4 introduced the Knights.

Not sure if I should still be disappointed that they're not as colorful as the toys.

Also Snarl and Slog never got concept art. This fanart was made before the release of AoE.

No one in the movies are as colorful as the toys. Understandable, but still a shame.

And I see. Thank you.

>God, IDW shit is worst than bayformers
How delusional does one have to be in order to think this?
It's literally just gen 1 with sleaker designs, more politics, and less quirkiness.

There are many forms of butthurt, this one might just have stemmed from notmuh. The delusion that it's worse than the films, we can never be sure.

There were better designs. This one felt like Lockdown's base model changed with a Bee head and strapped with boring colors.
