What happens now /co/?
>>
DCEU Rebirth
>>
We give up.
>>
>>85124541
WB is gonna mess with Wonder Woman because surely we can get it right THIS time!
>>
>>85124568
I feel bad for that movie now.
>>
Post some shit and then get on with our lives.
>>
>>85124541
Russo Brothers are so based because they are fans of the comics, and make movies largely that THEY would want to see and put audience expectations as a secondary (but important) goal.
DCEU has largely had directors hamstrung from the start in their not being fans of the comics, or are having higher ups squashing them flat with directives. Dunno what to say or how it can be 'fixed'.
>>
>>85124541
>What happens now /co/?

It makes tons of money regardless of reviews and WB continues with their line of profitable films.

So, you know. "Just like Transformers".
>>
>>85124568
Reshoots! All the reshoots! Throw money at the problem!!
>>
>>85124541
I honestly believe the best course of action would be to move to TV, making the DCEU part of the Arrow multiverse.

WW, JL and the rest get released as TV movies. Nobody reviews those.

Ezra shows up on the Flash show.

This just killed all the goodwill for SS, WW and JL combined so might as well just downscale.
>>
>>85124630
Were you paying attention when BvS underperformed at the box office? It still made money but not nearly as much as they projected.

I dunno, I'm going to go see it on Thursday and make my own opinions first.

If it turns out to be bad like the reviews say, then likely not much will change because apparently WB executives can't delegate creative decisions worth a single damn and I doubt that they'll be smart enough to fix the problem by firing them anytime soon.

>>85124568

Yeah, regardless of whether this hugely negative blowback is deserved or not, it seems like the executive production team reacts to it in the worst way possible.

Again, Transformers keeps pumping out sequels that make tons and tons and tons of cash no matter how bad the reviews are.

The DCEU won't be any different.

Transformers' entire audience is overseas, though.

See for yourself. Domestically, every movie since 2 has had diminishing returns. Meanwhile, it cleans up in the East.
>>
>>85124630
BvS didn't make as much money as they wanted, and films doing poorly can definitely have a snowball effect, anon.
WB is now 0/3, and you know they're going to mess with Wonder Woman and JL, and that'll most likely make it a 0/4 or 0/5.

It hurts my soul that the DCEU becoming the Transformers of comic book movies is the best result they have to offer.

DC deserves better than this. They should BLOW IT ALL UP and start over. I'd post Mad Stan if not for the storytime ITT.

As a fan of comics, is that what it's all about, the money, not the characters and stories themselves?
It's embarrassing what they are doing to the characters, no one is getting any joy out of these films, well except those that make money out of it.
Which is a point a viewer, a fan, who cares about the source material should never make.
Comparing it to Transformers, Jesus, that's how you know the situation is bad.

They give up and pump out formulaic and family-friendly Marvel clones to appease critics and mass audiences.

Comic movies are fucking dead and we were fools to ever think we would see the great classic stories and artwork come to life.

I can't even imagine what the RPM is gonna be on Kirby's corpse when the Fourth World material is pillaged and raped.

>WW, JL and the rest get released as TV movies. Nobody reviews those.

Do you have any idea how much money they'd lose by doing that? They've already spent those budgets. Even a $100m worldwide flop would be $100m toward paying off that debt.

>Ezra shows up on the Flash show.

Again, simpler to never use him. They'd be stuck (presumably) unable to recast him as a movie character until Ezra's contract runs out, unless they wanted to buy him out of it. Using him at his movie rate would just destroy the budget of any given week of the Flash show. You'd literally have to have him appear over several seasons to make it pay back from the show's budget, or get a new contract - in which case, better to get someone with a lower quote.

You're right though, this isn't working.

What needs to happen is focusing less on movies and more on TV. DC has always had much better results with their shows than movies, with shit like the DCAU and Teen Titans being widely loved. Despite the divisiveness on /co/, the CW shows are on top of the network too. I don't see why WB doesn't put more effort into television, they're clearly not winning with movies.

DC trying to catch up to Marvel is just sad to see. Because that's what it is, it's not even an attempt to appeal to DC fans. It's just a game of catch up.

Consider the fact that they are introducing nearly all of their big hitters in one movie while Avengers had years to do it. Consider that they had their two big names face off while Civil War had years after even Avengers came out.

They were afraid that capeshit would die out as a trend. Turns out they were the ones to kill it.

>Warner Bros. has promoted Geoff Johns to the post of president of DC Entertainment as it continues to reorganize the executives handling its DC movies.

>Johns retains the chief operating officer title and continues to report to DC Entertainment topper Diane Nelson. Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee also report to Nelson.

>The promotion of Johns to the presidency of DC Entertainment actually took place two months ago but the studio had not confirmed the move until this week.

>The studio disclosed on May 17 that it had given oversight of its DC Entertainment movies to Johns and Warner’s Executive VP Jon Berg through a recently created DC Films arm. Since then, Berg has been continuing to report to Greg Silverman, the president of creative development and worldwide production at Warner Bros. Pictures since 2013.

>Johns has been a driving creative force along with Greg Berlanti behind DC’s successful television properties “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Supergirl.”

>The moves are part of an evolution of the executive structure at Warner Bros., which saw mildly disappointing results from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and has been attempting to rev up its output of movies based on the DC characters, including Aquaman, Wonder Woman and The Flash. It also announced in May that Ben Affleck had expanded his role in the DC universe by taking on the duties of executive producer on Warner Bros.’ “Justice League: Part One,” in addition to starring as Batman.

>Marvel's casting has been perfect. Its astonishing how they not only find the right actors, but also find actors who are keen on the characters and universe.
Marvel actually credit their good casting to a singular woman. Sarah Halley Finn

In fact, she casted every single MCU film except The Incredible Hulk. She decided Chris Pratt was going to be Starlord, even though the director didn't want him. Sarah brought Chris on set for audition anyway, against director's wishes, and in the end he DID get the part because he was perfect.

Finn is basically the unsung heroine of the MCU. Well, almost, several interviews have since pointed out how important she was in getting the right people for the role. So now we know who she is.

>What happens now /co/?
Now people get hyped for the Wonder Woman movie. They bring up Patty Jenkins' credentials, and how much they liked Wonder Woman in BvS, and how awesome it looks, and detractors will point out the flaws over the course of the trailers' release, until general consensus is that it will be fair to middling, and DC's first decent movie.

Then it will be released and get a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics bashing the lack of a clear villainous threat to this demigoddess, overuse of slow motion action shots that add nothing, poor acting by the lead who now has to carry an entire movie rather than a walk-on cameo, and a sloppy script. This will incite a wave of laughing Chris Evans images by Marvel fans and claims of critic bias and paid reviews by DC fans, as GotG Volume 2 was released earlier that year to rave reviews.

It will end with grumbling that at least Justice League later that year looks good, and the cycle will begin anew.

Havent seen it yet, and I can say fuck the critics. BvS was shit, yes, but at the end of the day I liked, shitty as it was. Ive no doubt SS will also be shit as they say, but Ive got a feeling Ill enjoy it even more than I did BvS.

I mean i'm still going to watch it. Slightly more hopeful that it will be good because Jeremy Jahns liked it.

As for the universe....there are only so many times casual audiences can see a rotten rating (even though the tomatometer isn't really read as it should be) before they give up on the universe completely.

I know people are calling for a reboot. But i'm not getting any fucking younger and I have zero interest in another Batman or Superman origin story.

>Is this studio interference? Because I find it hard to believe that multiple directors have trouble with this basic thing.
According to leaks, there was two cuts of the film. One done by the director and one done by the guys who made the 2nd trailer of the film. The 2nd trailer people ended up getting majority control of the final editing because of how popular the trailer was.

The issue it seems, is that Warner normally leave the director alone. But when they feel like interfering, there was no one higher up in the chain who understands movies. So they try to fix a movie but have no idea what they want to change. It seems in the case of SS, they just said "make it like the 2nd film trailer".

Warner Bros. is making DC indefensible.

I adore Man of Steel. I appreciate Batman v Supeman - I prefer the theatrical cut even. But if this Suicide Squad is as rushed and edited to hell by reactionary executives as reports and reviews suggest then really what is the point of defending DC and these executives by proxy?

What is the point of being a DC fan?

The same studio that lets Zack Snyder morph classic characters into his vision of them without regard for audience reception goes onto to bully and butcher David Ayer's film until it looks like a mishmash of music videos and bad improv painted over a first draft of a real movie.

I cant trust Warner Bros. and I cant trust DC.

Like this, all of this, literally all of this 4chan shitposting! Its not even fun to defend DC on an anonymous imageboard! If the people making the movies wont protect them then why should I?

I havent seen Suicide Squad yet but walking out of it I will know rather or not I am still a DC fan.

Can we all just accept that for all its flaws, the movie adaptation was better than the CW's Suicide Squad?

TV shows are judged by a lower standard. They have a small budget, less talented actors, and most episodes are written in the span of a week. If you actually put this movie and the Arrow episodes side-by-side, you'll find that it holds up just fine.

The Suicide Squad is just not a good fit for a Hollywood movie. That was their only mistake.

You can't introduce the 7+ villains, explain their backstory, explain their history with their respective hero, setup future movies and tell a cohesive story that fully includes all of them in one single 2 hour movie.

We literally got a Harley Quinn, Joker, Deadshot and Killer Croc movie before a solo Batman one AND a fucking movie with Captain Boomerang before a Flash one.....that's fucking madness. >Except it's totally different for the Suicide Squad. They're villains of main heroes in the DCU. You can't introduce the 7+ villains, explain their backstory, explain their history with their respective hero, setup future movies and tell a cohesive story that fully includes all of them in one single 2 hour movie.
Fair, I think this here is the primary problem. WB is more concerned with catching up, than in telling a coherent story. For all the talk of being like "The Dirty Dozen," a lot people missed how the story was told.
>>
>>85140261
>They're villains of main heroes in the DCU.
I fail to see how that has any significance. The are villains and they are in jail, that gets established, everything else is superfluous.
>You can't introduce the 7+ villains, explain their backstory
Sure you can, they do it in very short vignettes that give you perspective as to what kind of people they are and then they move on.
>explain their history with their respective hero
They got busted by the Flash, Batman, the feds or then they just surrendered willingly. BAM. Done. That wasn't very hard.
>setup future movies and tell a cohesive story that fully includes all of them in one single 2 hour movie.
Again, you're wrong. There's minimal setup and the story is straightforward as fuck that even retards who couldn't understand BvS ought to be able to comprehend it.

Your entire argument is just autistic comic book fanboyism.

>>
Wait its PG-13? With everyone talking about how fucked up (mentally) the filming was I thought it was a supposed to be a fucked up movie.
>>
>>85140718
Your personal interest in seeing the movie was not the fucking point. The point was whether you think it would make a good idea from a comicbook movie storytelling point of view to have a solo/stand alone Venom movie.

Spoiler it's a fucking stupid idea

it's a stupid idea for the same reason doing a Suicide Squad movie so early into the DCEU is a stupid idea. Because these villains stories are intrinsically linked with their respective heroes.
>I think WB should've done a Lex Luthor solo movie before a Superman one
is basically what you're saying.
>>
>What happens now /co/?
I laugh. I laugh and I laugh and I laugh and I keep laughing until I die.

And every time /co/ said I was wrong. Every time /co/ accused me of Marvel shilling. I don't even think the MCU has any good movies in it.

I sowed the seeds of told ya so for years and now I reap my just reward.
>>
>>85140846

Suicide Squad works because the premise is that they are convicted criminals forced to do black ops missions. You do not need to establish anything else. Venom movie could very well work as an individual stand alone movie if they were able to come up with a story that could support it. But given how Venom is a character that has never really been able to support itself as a solo character properly, the chances are likely. SS on the other hand has had long runs where it's proven to be entirely viable idea that does not require you to know the villains and their ties to the heroes beforehand. Do you honestly think Assault on Arkham was bad because you did not know Killer Frost's intricate relationship with Firestorm?
>>
>>85140846
You're a moron and what you're saying makes absolutely no sense. Before Suicide Squad Deadshot only appeared in maybe 5 comics and they did a poor job of establishing him, Ostrander basically started from scratch.

This is a hard time to be a DC fan. Even harder when you like Marvel too. I know some of you don't like Marvel's films, but I do. And I really want to like DC's too. I try to find the good in them, I remember the moments that worked and endeavor to place those on a shelf above the bad in my head.

But it's getting harder to do, and by all indications, Suicide Squad may end up being the first DCEU film that I cannot shift into a comfortable place in my mind, and I think that will be it for me so far as my investment in DC as a movie universe. And that makes me sad.
>>
I'm in the boat that thinks WB should've had several films prior to SS that featured the villains. They don't each need to have their own movie but to at least have had a few featured as villains would've promoted more investment in the characters.

Even if SS proved to be mediocre, people would've seen it on the premise of "oh hey! It's the big bad from that one movie teaming up with the big bad of another movie to fight a baddie as the good guys? Neato!" That sounds a lot more interesting to me than a bunch of random bad guys, from the casual audience's perspective, teaming up tbqhfamalam.

>>
>>85144565
why do they put models into movies?
I mean, sure if she had some sort of formal acting training, but why?
modelling is nothing like acting
you just stand around and look pretty
in acting you have to actually open your mouth and speak

I have the same issues with voice-casting celebrities
they regular voice actors are used to not being seen and know how important teh voicework is
regular actors rely on the whole thing and therefore they don't really bother about voice and tone so much

Which of those was the one with the goat head? Goat head was the best.

Also, Joker's henchman Frost reminded me a lot of Butch from Gotham which was comfy. But making Joker kind of a weird mobster type seemed very limiting and grating - surely someone like the Joker would get bored just fucking about sending his boys to go whack some jabroni and shooting guns and wearing suits.

When I saw the henchman scene in the trailer I always hoped it would lead to Batgod crashing the robbery and fucking them all up but ehh

>But making Joker kind of a weird mobster type seemed very limiting and grating - surely someone like the Joker would get bored just fucking about sending his boys to go whack some jabroni and shooting guns and wearing suits.

It's not like Joker is Don fucking Corleoni in Suicide Squad, broheim. This Joker is basically a criminal who feels very much like modern crazy killer Joker mixed the Silver Age Clown Prince of Crime Joker. I.E. he commits crimes in part to finance his lifestyle and entourage, but really, it's mostly just him having fun creating mayhem and doing what he thinks is funny in Gotham. The gangster thing is just doing a realistic portrayal of criminal life, it's not cartoony like Joker just sitting in an abandoned warehouse for weeks while his thugs sit around playing cards and wait for the boss to come up with a new heist.
>>
>>85127305
>oh no rotten tomatoes doesn't like the movie

Rotten Tomatoes isn't one person though, it's a bunch of reviewer's scores aggregated into a percentage. I mean, you don't have to agree with them, but when I see that most people don't like a movie, and give convincing reasons, I'm not going to waste $12 to go see it in theaters.
>>
>>85145588
>but when I see that most people don't like a movie, and give convincing reasons, I'm not going to waste $12 to go see it in theaters.

That's entirely your prerogative, but keep in mind critics and general audiences are wrong all the fucking time and plenty of flicks that are now considered pure classics were originally panned by critics and bombed at the box office because the masses are idiots and didn't get them. Being a sheeple and only listening to critics means you're going to end up just watching what biased critics think you should watch. You'll be missing out on the new The Thing, It's a Wonder Life, etc.

YUP (eurofag)

Pro :

-Will smith not that bad as Deadshot
-Waller
-Margot Robbie trying her best, and she is hot. AND THE SUIT.
-First half kinda ok
-Some great money shots and great ideas
-Jared Leto is ok but underdevelopped and overacting
-Boomer actually good and funny like a Flash vilain

Shit :

-Should have been rated R.
-one liners are not funny at all
-shitty editing of a more serious version of the movie and a pop culture shit
-Cool a music playlist including Eminem BUT THIS MOVIE IS NOT COOL AT ALL
-Ostrander's and even nu 52 run raped
-Enchantress. CGI Hellfest of shit in the end.
-reshoots so fucking visible. And the LOL WE ARE A FAMILY NOW
-not badass at all
-generic action scenes

4/10 cause I'm generous and I love the Squad. I love Harley and I fapped to Margot Robbie. But this movie tries so much to be cool. Or this is not even Ayer's point of view to begin with. You see the rushed 6 weeks to write script. And the studio editing after BVS is HORRIBLE.

Suicide should have been a hit, could have been fun but with violence and really ba dguys. Here we have humanised psycho teaming together coz they are a family LOL.

>>
>>85146362
>Look, I hate to sound like a conspiracy nut but there are MUCH worse movies out there than this one that have a better rating
You only get a rotten rating if there is something fundamentally wrong with the film. This usually means bad editing, story not making sense, etc. There might be worse movies in terms of quality, but if it is broken then it gets a rotten score. It isn't a conspiracy.

Using food analogy, you get a passing grade for food that is edible. You could get the best tasting dish possible, but if it ends up being poisonous or kills the taster then you are still going to fail. Rotten is only really a sign that the people who made the film broke something simple.

Gotham and Metropolis have always been across the bay from each other you fucking casual
>>
>>85146643
>You actually think reviewers are using some kind of objective metric?
No, what I am saying is that "rotten" is usually only handed out if the reviewer think the film is unwatchable. The reviewer is only told to give a "yes or no" answer, so to get Rotten for the majority of your reviewers require that you did screw up something. Most bad films are still watchable, it is HARD to get a Rotten.
