Well, the scene of her reforming was still made intentionally unsettling - I doubt her being mad about what Jasper said is the entire point for it.

Even if it's supposed to be her cycling through previous forms (and it almost definitely is, though the show hasn't exactly been 100% consistent with that stuff), I'd say it was meant to serve as reminder that Amethyst has already shown signs of not being comfortable with her own self before. Changing her form dramatically when reforming and constantly shapeshifting isn't something I'd just brush off as "just Amethyst being Amethyst", the connection here is waaaaay too obvious.

I can easily relate to how she's lazy af and never tries her best in order to brush her own shortcomings and failures off with a "meh, I wasn't even trying" attitude.

All in all, while Amethyst getting corrupted doesn't exactly sound like a very likely scenario, her almost getting corrupted and being saved by Steven would fit in the story so well. We're in the middle of what seems to be a corruption arc and just a couple episodes ago Garnet mentioned corruption being the "tearing of the fabric of a gem's mind", something that corellates very closely with where Amethyst's current situation could lead to - and it would be a good next development on the path to Steven being able to actually heal corrupted gems, which he'll probably do by comforting them and "bringing their broken pieces back together" (which could lead to "healing" gem shards later on?) rather than just magically healing them.

I can give it a pass in the context of the scene, that being the surprise of not only seeing a human-hybrid fusion, but this small creature she'd been so fixated on suddenly acting like she was expected to, aka. Rose-like. The fact she didn't directly lose the fight, opting instead to retreat after the unexpected blow was enough to satisfy me.

That being said, if she does just end up jobbing for the rest of her time in the show I'll definitely be pissed. There should be one gem that's genuinely stronger than the others pre-fusion, it adds to the building of the universe in the form of a clearly divisible caste system for Homeworld.
