You do realize that the US Govt. has come out and said that they can treat US Citizens like foreign nationals if they feel like it (if they deem them an "imminent threat"), up to and including assassinating them with drone strikes, right?

It was kind of big news a few years back when the US Justice Department made this announcement.

Baz being treated the way he was is fully within the bounds of reality, let alone DC Comic Book Reality.

While most of them never actually reached Gitmo, thousands upon thousands of US Citizens (almost universally brown ones) have been harshly interrogated and almost flat-out declared traitors to be purged during said interrogations since 9/11, many of them pretty much having their lives ruined as fallout of the process.

Honestly, having an actual superhero have this in his background is delicious irony, given the way US lawmakers have publicly treated prisoners at Gitmo (even the ones pretty much acknowledged to probably have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time) as some sort of supervillians that they couldn't possible house in normal US Prisons, because they'd...? Hulk out and go on a rampage in the midwest?

I can't actually remember if they were shown among the revived reds though, I think this is their first appearance, but the fact that reds were revived definitely isn't out of the blue. Also Rankorr is still dead so yeah he definitely based it on the Lobo/Sinestro books which had Lobo kill that limey (who along with Bleez was for some goddamn reason loyal to Atrocitus at the time of death).

I liked Jessica in Johns JL. I've just never read GL (aside from GL: Rebirth years ago) because it feels like a massive back catalogue to catch up.

There was a research article by NBC saying how people won't start watching a series until they know they can start from the beginning.

It's the same for comics.
They keep trying to make comics accessible by restarting continuity, which is nice, but only a half measure since they keep referencing old events.
That turns people off.

You want to save comics?
Sell omnibuses for cheap in an easy to read way.
Sell them in book stores.
Make it a big event.

Don't make it fucking 200$ a collection.

Compare that to books. You can buy the entire ASOIAF series for 1/4 the price of a single part of an omnibus for comics.
That's so many more hours of entertainment and so much cheaper

Pretty much all picture books are expensive at MSRP, it's not just comics. You can't compare it to a novel without color and with cheaper paper. The closest thing to cheap omnibuses are the Showcase collections and I'm guessing those didn't make a ton of money since they stopped making them.
