That was the appealing thing about the show. The creators were obviously monster buffs. They even referenced the child actor in Bride of Frankenstein who couldn't deliver his lines coherently. That's why Frankenstein's son (the young version) speaks basically gibberish. Looks just like the kid too.

I think the further they got away from framing everything in horror movie shit, the less funny the show got. When it was basically just "ayy celebrity jokes".

Will Vinton Studios did pretty much all the fucking stop motion in the world during the 80's and 90's, but they're not really the precursor of Laika- for one thing, Will Vinton himself got the boot during the takeover. The company was basically bought by the guy who owns Nike so he could give it to his son, an animation enthusiast.
