You're seriously on the cusp of the show getting better. Things improve from 8 on, 12 is a big turning point, and 25/26 are the crazy episodes. Steven also develops a ton; he goes from pretty much everyone's least favorite to one of their favorites.

honestly, i dont really like this gif, a lot more couldve been done with a few cuts and varying camera angles. Also, just they way they're fighting is boring - punch, miss, repeat. Also another animation that ive seen get a lot of praise here is that fight between amethyst and lapis, which i dont think was that great either. it did the exact opposite of this one and went way to far with the camera angles and cutting(yes im considering a wipe a cut) and made everything in the fight unreadable. apart from the sometimes lazy animation for budget reason (I agree that held frame looked weird) i think SU has found a happy medium in terms of fight choreography, especially when boarded by Jeff Liu, RIP joe johnston. the only other one off the top of my head that i didnt like was when the gems came to save peridot and steven in "When it Rains" which as pretty boring
