If the show had morticia instead of morty, do you think they would have severely toned down how mean they are to their character? I feel like if they just did a flat gender swap, they would be called awful people for how much shit they give her, where as with morty, it's just fine.

I think that overall yeah Morticia would be treated better, both cause expectations for her would be different cause she's a girl, and cause she canonically has a different personality than the "Canon" Morty, she's Strong & Determined compared to his Easygoing, so I imagine that she not only wouldn't take Rick's crap anywhere near as much as most Morty's(supported by >>85094589 which was drawn by one of the show's Storyboard Artists), she'd probably be treated differently by her parents and Summer as well due to that
