What does /co/ think of Lumberjanes?
I keep hearing from people how much they like it without going into much detail. Sounds like just generic adventures with no real story. But it looks to be so popular, won an Eisner Award even.
>>85082454
Also wanted to add:
I'm hesitant to read it mostly because the art looks pretty bad.
Oh I got you, famalamadingdong!
>>85082594
Why does the camp counselor look like a typical Gary Larson woman?
>>85082454
Eisner awards don't mean shit. Squirrel Girl won an Eisner.
>>85082454
>sounds like
Just read it, dude.
>>85082626
She's Rosie the Riveter, you pleb!
>>85082649
Yes, surely it is the rest of the world that is wrong!
>>85082649
It didn't.
Tho you are naturally entitled to your feelings and opinions.
>>85082724
My god, the art and compositions are terrible. like that 3rd panel. Jesus....
>>85082766
Genuinely confused how this won an Eisner, the art and dialogue is all over the place. Is it just first-issue kinks they work out as the book goes on?
>>85082800
Honestly the best art in the series belongs to my least favorite issue. Still this artist does monsters and stuff well.
>>85082824
I was iffy on the first issue. I usually start off storytimes on the 13th then double back to the start.
Issue 2 is where it won me over.
>>85082454
I tried to like it, but there are seriously no stakes to ANYTHING that goes on. Ever. Just about every obstacle the girls come across is dealt with in maybe one or two pages in the most anticlimactic manner, and after about nine issues of that I just got tired of it.
I've watched shows aimed at preschoolers that had a better grasp of the concept of tension than this comic does.
I'm just gonna shut up now and let the comic post.
I like it, this is known, let's you lot talk about your feeling separate from this ol' outrageous storytimer.
>>85082824
>Genuinely confused how this won an Eisner, the art and dialogue is all over the place. Is it just first-issue kinks they work out as the book goes on?
Not really, no. What you see is what you get.some of the monster illustrations are pretty nice, though
And this is where it won me over.
Maybe I just love monsters.
>>85082714
>what the junk
God I hate that fake slang bullshit.
>>85082853
Why is Tumblr fiction always so low-stakes? Is it because genuine tension is triggering?
>>85083147
You have live action Nickeledeon and Adventure to thank for that.
>>85083346
Tumblr fiction is about overcoming problems, not actually experiencing them.
>>85083373
>Adventure
Time, that is.
>>85083400
Ayyyyyyy
>>85083373
At least with Adventure Time it works because it's a post apocalyptic world and Finn has no proper education whatsoever and says things like "mathmatical" because it's just a "cool" sounding word to him.
>>85083465
Oh yeah, I totally tolerate Adventure Time lingo and it's grown on me but Adventure Time as a whole unfortunately helped create a cancer of an era in style and humor.
>>85083448
Uh no. She would not be able to do that
>>85083461
>leverage
What leverage? She wasn't lifting anything.
>>85083534
>put the diamond shaped gem into the diamond shaped hole to open the door
>you're a genius
So this is what passes as intelligence in a woman? That's embarrassing to women with actual smarts.
>>85083534
Jeez you guys weren't kidding about no stakes and things being solved in one page. Just introduces shit then gets rid of them in no special way at all. Just flicks at the enemies and they all fall like a house of cards.
How can people like a boring mess like this?
(((calarts)))
>>85083576
did you get it yet? they're lesbians. just wanted to let you know they're lesbians.
>>85083665
The same reason people like Sword Art Online. It's wish fulfillment.
While it makes for boring stories, some people love protagonists who remind them of themselves and do not get challenged.
>>85083373
>Tumblr fiction is about overcoming problems, not actually experiencing them.
My God this explains Questionable Content perfectly.
It's boring and overhyped. The cast are hard to tell apart, because the characterisation is non-existent (who the hell doesn't give a cast list at the start of a comic where there are half a dozen protagonists?!) and every conflict they meet is dealt with on the next page by complete and utter bullshit. I was willing to give it a chance, but after reading #1-9 storytimed by Dan Dashly I just wanted the time I'd wasted reading it back.
>>85082824
It gets comparatively more coherent, and some panels made me smile... but yeah, this didn't deserve to win an Eisner. I can only assume it was because of politics behind the scenes (the writer is friends with the guy who runs Comics Alliance).
>>85082670
>Awards represent the masses.
>Thinking awards are irrelevant means you're delusional.
Fuck off, storytimer.
>>85082454
long live lesbian powers
>>85083840
>some people love protagonists who remind them of themselves
More precisely, they love empty shells they can project on. That's part of the reason these characters can never meaningfully experience conflict. It might lead to character-growth, which would diminish their capacity to act as a cipher.
>>85084002
>that line about kicking butts and then having to explain it for no reason other than to be "funny"
Did a writer from Borderlands write this?
>>85083992
Well that was implicit, but yeah.
When a character is challenged it reveals faults, however minor they may be. This increases how understandable they are as people but decreases the ability for the audience to find them directly relatable in relation to how deep and well defined the character fault is.
>>85084164
>boys are the villain
Good fucking god.
>>85084096
The interesting thing is, a really well-written character can eventually project on YOU in a way, which is infinitely more satisfying. Like you feel their struggle so much that they can change your views or mannerisms. Characters like Dale Cooper, Joe Dredd, etc. can become a part of you.
Tumblr writers can never achieve this effect of course.
>>85083840
Sword Art Online is good tho.
>>85084350
You are one of those people.
>>85084183
Gingerhazing cannot draw enticing covers for her life.
>>85083924
All awards become politics driven eventually.Like how Gene Luen Yang won best writer in 2015, he's good, but no way was he the absolute best writer that year.
And its not like they want to give awards to someone new, Dave Stewat gets Best colourist every other yearWhich he totally deserves
>>85084759
the redhead being strong is not an interesting character trait.
> we need to cross a river
knocks down a tree
> oh no this giant statue is guarding something
just break off an arm
Whatever, just have characters arbitrarily do whatever convenient actions get around obatacles.
>>85084282
I wouldn't mind a story focusing on this crew of bored out their mind qts.
>>85084954
Latest story arc has members of other cabins getting more attention, hoping that is going to be a continuing trend.
>>85084994
>Gods darn it
>gods
Oh fuck. Are they those pagan assholes types?
>>85085064
This is something that's actually explained and not stupid bullshit.
Surprisingly.
>>85082454
>Sounds like just generic adventures with no real story.
/co/ should be all over it, then.
>>85082688
>how could you not like this movie? it won best picture at the oscars, it must be good!
>>85085477
Honestly, I was being a shit. Awards don't actually mean much to me, generally, the more prestigious, the more bogus.
>>85082454
the 'art' is low effort and ugly
Is it just me or /co/'s storytimes are getting more and more horrible in these days?
>tfw I'm just here for the /co/mmentary
>clicks random image
>>85085688
>penis nose on a nigger
every time
>>85085678
well, horrible comics = horrible storytimes
also, don't forget to add "sage" in options
>>85085678
It's the state of modern comics. Look for storytimes of euroshit or Rebirth if you want a storytime of not-pain.
>>85082454
I'm convinced it's just one person buying every copy and that same person who makes threads about it here on /co/
Fuck off OP nobody cares about your boring comic
>>85085735
Saging does nothing when the storytimer isn't op.
And there you go!
I hope you either liked it or didn't like it now with reason instead of just regurgitating the opinions of others or going off of out of context panels and such.
Eh, have a bonus with, in my opine, prettier visuals and a waifu with sharp teeth and hairy legs.
Ooh my god, this is so fucking bad.
I have no words to describe what I am seeing.
And neither did the writer, apparently.
>>85085859
>Friendship to the max.
TUBULAR
>>85085739
Euro stuff posted on this place is equally bad. /co/ apparently doesn't understand what makes franco belgian so different than other comics.
Hint: It's not shitty hyperfantasy dramas or high school whores.
>>85085952
>high school whores.
Hey hey hey
Everyone loves high school whores.
>>85085981
I only like it if it's been drawn by Larry Welz.
>>85086010
That's quite some_bad_taste, bud
>>85085859
Oh thank you, you've done us such a service by obnoxiously posting your comic. You're truly making /co/ better with your spiteful shitposting.
God fucking damn it OP the comic's cast looks like a model sheet of some S&M club.
>>85086087
I'm sorry, next time I'll make a Suicide Squad thread.
>>85082649
squirrel girl won a hugo awards, another award that has no meaning anymore.
>>85086048
It might look like that for a tumblrina.
>>85086111
Next time just don't post at all.
>>85086111
When will mods start to ban those /tv/ immigrants?
>>85085981
>liking bellybuttons
Just kill yourself.
>>85086240
>Not liking Belleybuttons
Man, /co/ used to be cool.
>>85086303
No one gives a shit about your opinions fucktard. You should kill yourself too btw.
Now I'm really done!
Will probably do a dump of Godzilla Oblivion on Wednesday to celebrate the series wrapping up.
Until next time, stay outrageous.
>>85086428
hey, fuck you too.
>>85082670
very cool fox drawings. I thought this comic was slice of life seasoned with a hint of plot, but guess i was wrong.
>>85082454
I remember when this came out two years ago. 90% of /co/ thought it was godawful and the other 10% called the first group misogynists. Normal /co/.
>>85086558
This is your answer OP.
>>85086496
<3
>>85085952
>/co/ apparently doesn't understand what makes franco belgian so different than other comics.
So what does make it different?
>>85086983
It's the slapstick element. Like Gaston or Lucky Luke has.
>>85085718
Same here, I'm not even loading any of these images unless someone comments on them.
I never gave it a full 5 issue look but what I have seen a didn't like.
Story was okay to passable, but the art was so terrible I couldn't imagine why someone would stick with it long enough.
Like good writing or good art. One of the other to keep an interest, both to be easily recommendable.
If ya don't got either all you can be left to be called is bad.
>>85085859
OP here. I didn't want a damn storytime. Wanted opinions to decide if I wanted to waste my time with it or not.
>>85086358
There are so many problems with that face.
>>85087323
Doesn't seem to be worth your time but he gave it to you for free so you could just try reading it and deciding for yourself.
>>85087505
This,
/co/'s opinions are worthless. Form your own.
I just storytime for my own enjoyment,
>>85087641
I'm sorry you enjoy shit taste.
>>85087641
I wouldn't say they're worthless. Usually you can get a rough idea of what you're getting into if you aggregate the many opinions of /co/ and every once in a while someone has the insight to parse it out themselves.
So, what does this win an award for? Existing? Because it sure does
>>85084825
True enough - I remember a few years ago something called The Eagle Awards gave Howard Chaykin their Favourite Writer/Artist award... Eric Powell and Bryan Lee O'Malley were the other nominees.
>>85082454
Ugly art, tons of praise when it doesn't do anything good or new to deserve it, andStevenson is a huge bitch.
I remember seeing someone's in-depth critique over the inking and it was visually a mess, never mind the lack of organisation.
>>85086649
Yup
It's a flat out terrible comic only read by people bullied into it by propagandists
>>85083346
Tumblr thinks that havng female characters hurt or in danger is sexist, so their female characters never have to struggle to succeed in any situation.
>>85083373
This
Also my god, this is so stupid. All the [female name]-exclamations too - gotta remind our audiences we're feminists!
I wish for Gingerhaze's success to end asap.
I might be a bit tumblry and I found the comic enjoyable but with weak points like thinking #8 ended a bit too over the top. Ripley best main character. I feel somewhat bi and trans but I feel like that it might be a bit over the top with it and not focus on anything else later on.
>>85091883
Crap this image is really ugly.
Uh, thanks for storytiming as a public service I guess? My opinion on the series is pretty much the same as when the first issue came out.
