THere's never any real character development. Rusty doesn't even TRY to rise above his limitations. He's the son of the greatest adventurer the world has ever know. He should at least TRY to live up to it.

The real problem is that Rusty was the greatest Boy Adventurer ever. Jonas pushed him into becoming a scientist, when he really isn't suited to it. Then add on all the other complexes he developed from being around the old Venture Crew and we see why he doesn't live up to his father.
