REMINDER

Okay /co/, think about it like this, whenever you see a picture of president Eisenhower, you could swear you've seen him a thousand times, but whenever you see a picture of Obama then you've seen him 2 thousand times. Think on that, and the location of the puzzle will be clear.

OR

In times of boredom, the British empire would manufacture false events on foreign lands to entertain theirselves, you know what the biggest and longest running one is? The US. The constitution and the bill of rights were fake, the founding fathers? Highly devoted thespians who were as loyal to the crown as they were to Shakespeare. This entire country is just one big false event that's been spiraled into a world-wide spectacle. Now, how does this relate to the puzzle? Well, if you shout the true names of the founding fathers than a agency of British spies will be under your beck and call, you could, theoretically, use this agency to hunt down the statue. Good luck, /co/, and may the sun never set on the British empire!
>>

Could it really be true? Could we be Wacky Races again tomorrow?

Good afternoon. In less than an 24 hours, anons from here will join hunters from around the internet. And you will be launching the largest Wacky Races in this history of this CipherHunt.

Cipherhunt -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can't be consumed by our petty distances anymore.

We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today is the 1st of August, and you will once again be fighting for our name, not from media, oppression, or persecution -- but from Tumblr, Reddit, and Discord.

We're fighting for our right to laugh at them, to not be a joke.

And should we win the day, the 1st of August will no longer be known as just another day, but as the day when /co/ declared in one voice:

"We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We're going to live on!

We're going to jizz on that statue with our MAGA hats on"
>>
I'm the fag who keeps trying to match the trees with tree ciphers. Well...ALL the trees. Some are already perfect matches and I do mean perfect.

Except the branches don't just translate into English letters they also represent tree names. I got a few Adler's, one Apple, and a few Willow and Rowan tree's.

Perhaps the answer is written in the trees is tied to their names as given by the cipher?

Adler, Willow, Apple, Rowan...If there is a pattern I need help seeing it.

If I am onto something it won't matter. My findings as you can see from some of the replies are always dismissed. And thus I can't get a R&D team going. I've run my letters through many ciphers in top of the run ciphers, I do get some words, the most promising was Happy Va- which I looked up. There is a town named Happy Valley in OR with a few parks (pictured)

Either that was a coincidence, or I'm in the right track but I'm so goddamn tired of looking at ciphers that my brain is shutting down, and can't narrow it down further.

I have run the letters through the ceasar yes but I mostly get more gibberish. Unless there is a step I missed or have to run those letters again through a Vigniere or atbash cipher.

I do think the hack may have made it so we have to use 2 or 3 different ciphers if this indeed the correct way to solve the riddle .

>>
>>85070589
If it happens to be how you solve the whole thing that then that's likely.

I got something like aYBHOBHBOBHO, and a ceasar cipher obviously won't be of any use with that string.

(I also did that real quick so I might have messed one or two letters up)

I 'm gonna think about it with the clues in mind.

What is this?
>>
>>85071126
what was the first keyword for decoding the first clue ?

maybe when need to reuse this one "return to where it all began"

"Final piece is in your hands" maybe another keyword, I was also thinking of something having to do with mirroring the trees to get another set of letters being chiral from one another.

No real idea what "the parchment is such a tease" would mean except to warn us that the map is a tease and not to be used before figuring the answer.

And finally the answer"s written in the trees is both literally and figuratively reffering to the tree runes.

That's all I got after a little brainstorming.

My fav moment in this mess was the 1st 2 days if working the puzzle this blonde guy in the Dipper hat on the left was helping and no one realized he's a movie director and former cartoon voice actor. His name is Nate Ruegger, son of Tom Ruegger who created Animaniacs. You may remember him as the voice of Skippy Squirrel and baby Plucky from Tiny Toons. I confirmed it was him in FB because he's in my friends list. Very surreal moment. Trying to tell the periscope chat was like screaming in to the void.

We can always try.

Anyone else want to try my alphabet system?

Assuming that it's a street and that the last letter is a N E S or W, try to solve the rest of the message. Assume the blank spot is a space. Any letter you put in for a symbol applies to all of the same symbol.

For an example,

New EggLozenge N.

I divided the trees in half and then created an alphabet system based on branch location. My previous post contains the 'code' taken from the trees. Insert in letters to try to form words with the idea that the same symbol has to have the same letter. I.e. the symbol on the farthest right, if given an e, would mean that the first letter is also an e. Basically, just try to come up with some word where the symbols match letters but it still makes sense. I'm assuming the last letter is N E S or W if the message is a street name.

I have to say I've shocked to see so many people giving up! When were you where the times we didn't need clues to figure out hard mysterys? I'm seen so many people asking for the next hint when we used to get all the investigations done in a day! Overtheless I still feel the need to tell you all that there's a problem here, please stop distracting others! We can get this done if we try to focus. Contrery to popular believes it's not easy to ignore them here even if you are a hard worker? Likelywise even the people during the shows run were distracted! It's going to be hard to do this, but once in a fortnight were we ever to give up! Gather me so we may all focus, and get this done before Alex gives out the next clue! We Don't NEED IT!

CalArts Anon here, since the puzzle is done just wanted to answer any last questions people on here had? Then back to good old fashioned lurking. As far as if I was there tonight when it was finished, no. Unfortunately I had work all day, which sucked but I don't mind too much. And just add on to some stuff posted already:

>>85073471
>>85073667
>>85075504
She was one of the small handful of people who finished the actual ciphers on the puzzle last Thursday.

>>85073599
Not necessarily. I think I recognize 6 of the people that I'd seen at the puzzle before, maybe 4 or 5 of those who'd put a lot of work in, and I think 2 who were there since day one. My numbers may be off since I had to work a lot during the puzzle though. Unfortunately after last Thursday a lot of us who'd been working on it since the beginning had to move on with lives/ work/ whatever. A lot of people contributed, whether they were able to be there tonight or not.

>>85073652
It really was cool of him to go down there and meet some of the people who helped with the puzzle! Glad they got to meet him.

>>
>>85075596
>last Thursday.
so after they were given the final look, still not worthy of being based
>>
>>85075699
Oh yeah, nothing and no one was based with regard to the puzzle I think. Even with the final look though, it still took figuring out. While the ciphers on the digital puzzle were correct, the individual piece placement wasn't. The easiest place to notice it is around the border where on the digital version there tended to be a 2 piece gap of yellow between the ciphers, while on the physical puzzle, the ciphers usually went either to the edge itself, or just one piece in from it. Even then, it made for a relatively accurate road map and was the most helpful with the general layout.
>>
Sorry the digital ones were such shit but I hope it helped a bit
>>
>>85075922
Oh yeah, it helped a TON. And I totally understand there were unique challenges for both the physical and digital. The funniest thing I thought was a lot of people were saying along the lines of "The physical puzzle has the advantage because you can feel if the pieces actually fit." Which in retrospect was actually a bit more of a double edged sword since, yeah, they had to fit! I think the whole thing probably would've turned out better if we'd been able to do a digital puzzle from the beginning, whether "official" or not.
>>
>>85075976
Good to hear. I was worried we put work into something that ended up being no use. And I agreed, if we could've gotten better pics of pieces early on we could've thrown it together and really helped. Anyway, I'm glad you guys finished it

>>
>>85076042
Same same. I think, and this one is more just kinda an out there opinion, I think it would've helped avoid some group drama and what not that happened in the first few days? Part of my own frustrations too were when it was introduced kinda midway, but oh well, can't change the past and it ultimately helped a lot.

>>
>>85076081
I think you're right, or at least there wouldn't have been as much drama. A few guys in the discord cut out pieces from the earliest pics taken and I worked with a guy to put them in a program. So pics earlier would've helped. The second semi-official one we were contacted about to make we only had hours to get it done. We were basically finished when Alex started giving hints cause he was so impatient I guess. But yeah, can't change the past. Still feels good to know we helped.

>>
>>85076097
That part fucking sucked. My guess is that we probably could've shortened it by at least a day or two if the puzzle had been more organized at the beginning. It's just kind of hard when everyone is in like an excited frenzy for the puzzle that they're intent on getting it done in the first day, and even the day after, until everyone kinda realized it was bigger than we initially though. Even with maybe more "proper" organization, the physical puzzle probably still would've taken around a week?

>>85076157
Really appreciate the work that went into the digital puzzle, so thanks for helping put that together. Really happy with the hat too, never been one for hats but I figure it's one to keep around.
>>
>>85075976
>a double edged sword, since, yeah, they had to fit!
But that still stands with the digital puzzle too, only we didn't have the luxury of knowing whether or not the piece genuinely fit.

I'm a little salty when it comes to the digital puzzle, I did 5 sections of it.
I like jigsaw puzzles, it was a particularly annoying one.
>>
>>85076221
No problem. Honestly, it was all pretty fun. Thanks again for all the work on the physical.
And if you change your mind about the hat I'd take it off your hands
j/k that's definitely one to keep.
>>
>>85076237
Definitely with regard to the digital puzzle too; I think it was a double edged sword for both (I should've clarified that). Why'd you find it particularly annoying? Mainly because of the genuinely fitting or like the design of the puzzle in general?
>>
>>85076294
Haha, I'll be sure to let you know if I change my mind!
>>
>>85075699
Clue was given the week before
>>
>>85076303
The digital puzzle had exactly four types of pieces.

Male to male sides, female to female sides, corners, and then every other fucking piece of the puzzle that was one type that was exactly the same every time.
The only variation was length or width, which didn't help a ton.

In normal jigsaw puzzles, there's a lot of types of pieces. It really helps narrow it down when it comes to big spaces of the same color.
That just didn't exist in the digital one.

Due to the one main type of piece, it often became hard to tell what was the correct piece for a spot, too.
Nothing ever lined up perfectly, and fairly often I had multiple pieces that fit into the same spot on one side, so I had to find multiple adjacent pieces to confirm that one piece was right.
>>
>>85076379
what are you saying? that's not going against my comment, and also i'm talking about the final online version
>>
>>85076237
Wow, you did 5? I made the thing and I could barely stand to do the one section I did. We ran out of time to add multi-select which was a pain.
>>
>>85076405
eat a dick, big boy
you have no fucking source
>>
>>85076405
It helped when the first two I pulled were the ones with the eye.

A lot of the problems I had with the digital puzzle weren't there when I had both black lines and a big-ass eye on half the puzzle, making it super easy to put it together.

I complain, but I definitely appreciate the work you guys did.
I wouldn't have done as much as I did if I weren't having some fun with it.
>>
>>85076387
Oh yeah hell no I couldn't bring myself to do what you did. Closest I came to any of that was looking real damn close at the corners of the physical pieces to make sure it was a real match and not a "Oh, this piece feels like it fits" when they didn't actually. Truth is that I don't know the last time I did a puzzle of any kind, but I'd guess it's when I was a child and it wasn't a real puzzle. The only thing I figured was that organization was going to be the thing to enable the puzzle to be finished.
>>
>>85076387
Ugh yeah about that. The pieces we were given for that final one looked as if they were cut up in another program and then given to us as a jpeg. So some still had an outline around them and they weren't as clean as they could've been.
It sounds like after the hunt we're going to make an updated one that actually functions well for anyone that want's to do it for fun. Why anyone would want to relive that horror tho...

The physical Bill puzzle had more variety in pieces, about 4 more types. After doing an online section, I was beginning to sympathize with how long they were taking until I learned they actually more piece variety.

I gave up once I was on yellow pieces only, it became impossible to know (or care) if the pieces were the right fit.

I grew up with a pretty solid age gap between myself and my only sibling, so whenever I played video games or did a puzzle, I did it alone.

I could not fucking imagine how you guys organized a bunch of assholes in a way that managed to actually complete the physical puzzle.
That sounded far harder than anything else.

>>85076462
Yeah, I figured you guys pushed it out in a working condition, not really in an ideal condition.
You did what we needed, and that was awesome.

I would 100% appreciate a less shit digital version, although I'd like a physical copy for myself even more.

I actually love puzzles too. My family's garage has the walls covered in ones we've done. I just think I'm jaded on the yellow and black evil that was the bill puzzle.
>>85076553
Seriously good to hear. I wasn't sure how much of an impact it had since it seemed solved so quickly after release.

Quick question before I actually try and get some sleep,
Would you like the updated digital to have the ten sections (and there'd be no need to randomise them anymore so you could pick one and do each), or would it be preferred to have it as one giant hell puzzle?
>>
>>85076627
then why haven't you gone there
>>
>>85076644
Bigger question is why haven't you?
>>
>>85076533
Wish I'd known more about piece type variety when organizing it and walking others through it! Yellow pieces were also pretty shitty on the physical one, but it was a weird trade off compared to the ciphers. A lot of people found the ciphers mentally more draining, but physically easier, while the yellow was the opposite. When people got tired of working on the ciphers, we usually had a yellow table set up so people could come back a bit mentally.

>>85076553
To me the people organization was probably the most difficult, but it got way easier once everyone wasn't in that honeymoon phase with the puzzle anymore. Also after the digital version was solved, I think people felt a lot less pressured to get it done and were easier to work with. I think it'd be cool to have a physical copy of the puzzle too, it can be pretty de-stressing just working on it one bit at a time when you're able.
>>
>>85076653
that's not a bigger question it's the same question
>>

If this was us it was our cleverest Dick Dastardly move yet. Foiled by Alex, sadly. Otherwise you'd have everyone flocking off in pursuit at daybreak.
>>
>>85076640
Both?
>>
>>85076640
I'd like a giant hell puzzle because I'm crazy.

But I'm not against the 10 individual sections, if that's what wins out, simply because that's what I'd love to go back to and do.

One day when I was a kid, my dad spent an entire day searching for a completely transparent puzzle he saw an ad for in a puzzle magazine.
Sadly it was an April Fools joke.
I was doomed to like this shit from the start.

>>85076670
I really wish I lived in the area, I would have fucking loved to work on the physical puzzle.
Sadly, I live halfway across the country in a place where nothing ever happens.

But yeah, I imagine it was a bit easier to organize everyone as time went on. Less people who were there for the whole hunt, and more for the puzzle itself.

Your family is hardcore puzzle people. We had a family down from Northern California that were really into puzzles, maybe not as much as your's, but it was really great having people around who liked puzzles as a whole. Would've been great having more people who genuinely love puzzles! We had some people from quite a ways around too. Most of them were here for the puzzle + something else usually, but I know we one guy from Texas, a couple from Washington state, all around California. GUYS THERE ARE FIVE FEATURES:

1) Branch up
2) Branch down
3) Needled branch Down
4) Needled branch Up
5) Knots

Plugging them numbered as indicated above leads to gibberish, but it comes out to:

BU 1
BD 2
PU 3
PD 4
KN 5

24 35 35 32 21 23 15 24 22 15 24

The above values plugged into Polybius are incorrect (they yield I/J P P M F H E I/J G E I/J) but it shows us a few things. First letter and last letter would have to be the same, as they're the same combination regardless. Also the 2nd and 3rd letters would have to match each other. If we flip around the values maybe we can get it.
>>
>>85083742

1. I don’t think there will be any cipher except the Polybius.
2. We just need to guess the order, in which to read the branches/knots, after that it will be only 120 assignments of digits to kind of branch, it could be checked with a script (in fact, I have already written a script in c++ to generate all possible words, if we know the order of branches).
