From what I know of crowdfunding is that they tend to make the most money in the first couple of days and the last few days.

The most recent one I followed was Them's Fightin' Herds and they made about 40% their first day and LGG currently is at around 30%.

The fact that they have to turn to KS for funding for their pilot is telling. Seems like they'll reach their goal anyway, so no real point in backing it yourself. Just sit back and download it whenever someone inevitability links to a mega here on /co/.

With the perks, kickstarter sounds like a shitty idea, half of it will be gone to tax, and almost the rest will go into perk production, leaving fuckall remaining for the show to be made.
A lot of these kickstarters are just badly thought out.
I highly doubt they can get a 10/20 minute pilot done with just ~$7500 (educated guess based on current performance of this kickstarter).

The difference is that the creator is in charge of what they do or don't want to show. In theory, the creator can censor their work however they want without having it imposed on them by a figure of authority: it's not like every independent startup has to be Loli Urethral Insertion Rape Deathmatch 2000, and the freedom to do whatever they want also means the freedom to pander to whatever group they wish to sell their product to.

Don't bother. Unless this thing gets sudden major press from someone or someone with more money than sense shows up, it'll probably reach the basic goal and that's it. If they're really lucky they'll hit 50k which basically guarantees they'll hit 60k (cause only 10k more for a second episode will get people to pay more), but even that is dubious. 100k isn't happening.

What I want out of any KS really. For them to deliver something that's faithful to the original pitch in a decent amount of time. For LGG in particular I really love the character designs and western setting.

Well, there's Bee and Puppycat I guess. There's also the Dragon's Lair pilot KS and John K has one too.

I hardly know of any so I can't really say. I think the first Dragon's Lair KS failed because DL and Don Bluth don't have a lot of name recognition these days, sadly. The first LGG crowdfunding kind of failed too. I think going with GoFundMe was a mistake, having a deadline gives a sense of urgency that motivates people to donate.

Well, Bee and Puppycat did but people generally don't seem happy with it. The art design changed too much from the pilot. I can understand a little simplification of the character designs for animation's sake but it just looks like shit now.

More promotion I think. I didn't even hear about the first DL one until it was like 1 day away from failing. And then the relaunch was much more successful.

-All I'm looking for out of a crowdfunded cartoon is a unique example of creative expression that can't be normally seen in today's animation scene. Good animation and plotting would be nice, but I'm happy so long as it's something different.

-There's been quite a few crowdfunded cartoon projects, but I've seen a lot of them rely on IndieGoGo. Stuff like The Pig Farmer and LINE, namely one-off animated shorts that are produced as a proof-of-concept. There's also stuff like Little Witch Academia 2 and Otaku no Video, which often boil down to Blu-Ray preorders of anime stuff.

A basic list of other notable (as in not totally Newgrounds level) animation kickstarters off the top of Kickstarter: LASTMAN, The Nine Lives of Claw, and Cannon Busters (controversial as it may be).

-People covered the failures of Bee and Puppycat and overambition, so I'll just tack on my personal opinion: if an animation kickstarter's funds don't mesh with the final product, then it's ultimately a failure. If a $250,000 has obvious rigging and less-than-smooth animation, I'm going to wonder where all that money went. See Mighty No. 9, on an animated pilot's scale.

-Successful animation crowdfunding projects generally have something to show for them. The quality of the product may be questionable occasionally (B+P), but there's generally something to show for the crowdfunding effort. Nobody's filmed themselves burning the merch from a cartoon Kickstarter, at least not yet.

-Failed crowdfunding efforts have some experience to show for it, so they ought to know the score. Be up front about their previous failed project, explain what you'll be doing differently for the next project, and keep in touch with the backers regarding status updates. Once communication is lost, backers get antsy.
