I think what made Grayson great was how different it was to past Dick stories, the writing here is just as good, but once again its bound hand and foot to the Batfamily complete with Robin flashbacks, Batgirl and an impending crossover. So what we have now is just a fairly well written Nightwing comic.

Looks like Nightwing is living up to its name of being less than good. There's some potential with Raptor but my eyes glaze over every time they go into Dick's terrible infatuation with Barbara and his complex with Bruce. Hope all the baggage gets dropped in the arc after Monster Men or Dick really will only be good when his solo isn't called Nightwing.

Because Rebirth is about returning characters to their status quo, which can be good for some cases. The thing is, Nightwing status quo was never good; this run is returning Dick's attachment with batfamily, something Grayson successfully downplayed to acceptable levels.

That doesn't necessarily change things though if DC want him closer to the Batfamily, and there's a crossover in... September I think that has Dick in it, which Nightwing will have to devote an issue to, and then deal with the fallout.

He'll always be involved with the Batfamily, that won't change. He's the first Robin, he'll never be a completely separate entity like the Flash or Green Lantern. At least this crossover looks like it'll be better coordinated than Robin War, which interrupted an arc in Grayson. But at least he's not confined to a city or neighborhood fighting gangs, like he's Daredevil. All those spy characters will show up again, and the Parliament won't last long.

It kind of did. #14 ended with Dick convincing Tiger to go against Spyral. Then Robin War had Dick still working for Helena, and dropping everything to return to Gotham. #16 then picks up with Dick and Tiger taking down Spyral agents, and there's no mention of Robin War. It'll be really weird to read in a trade, as Vol 4 collects #13-17, with both Robin War bookends.

It's hard to tell how Night of the Monster men fits in, but at least it seems to start after the Parliament of Owls arc.
