Larry Hama.
>>
>>85052469
Ah yes. Now let the battle between the judo master and the escape artist begin.

Frank Frazetta did comics, and no one's a bigger badass than him.
>>
Ok better question should be that you are at a bar with these four gentlemen. What do you talk about?
>>

Gettin' pussy.
>>

Steranko's pick up line: "Hey ladies, wanna hear about the time I slapped the creator of Batman?"
>>
>>85052709
What it was like growing up.
>>
>>85052684
well he got the frank-face going so thats kinda badass
>>
>>85052388
>why is it Jim Steranko
Because he slapped the shit out of Bob Kane.

I love Steranko but why do anons ignore what a kiss ass company boy he was?

Great artist and charismatic as fuck guy but siding with Stan against Kirby? Good career move but that's pretty fucking weak. He was mentored and taught the "Marvel Method" by Kirby from day one and he just used it to replace him. He's still die hard STAN DEFENSE FORCE to this day.
>>
>>85053958
Jim was in a bad place when Stan gave him work, so Jim will always be grateful. It's what men from his generation do. I'm not saying it's right, just how it is.
>>
>>85054732
>Jim was in a bad place when Stan gave him work

Was he? Always seemed like he worked for Marvel just for the hell of it.
>>
>>85052469
This. Dude was a combat engineer during the Vietnam War (he supposedly worked as a "tunnel rat", one of the most dangerous assignments), is trained in judo, iaido (Japanese swordsmanship), and kyudo (Japanese martial archery), plays a mean guitar (his band the K-Otics used to play at CBGBs), wrote arguably the best Wolverine besides Chris Claremont, and he's chill as fuck.

Also acceptable answers: Jack Kirby, Sam Glanzman
>>
>>85054756
From what I understand, times were tough for Jim, and he was going through a bit of funk; odds are I'm misremembering some of the details.
>>
>>85052912
>Hey ladies, wanna hear about the time I slapped the "creator" of Batman?
Fixed.
>>
>>85053830
Fuck, that is brilliant.
>>
>>85052684
I really wish Frazetta did more ink work; like his paintings well enough, but his comic/ink work just resonates more with me.
>>
>>85053830

You can see how he tells his stories--even ON TWITTER!
>>
>>85054756
You see, at that time he was in a courtship with this particularly gorgeous girl, who wanted a fine mink coat, but unfortunately the way to the department store was a cross a river only traversable by ferryman, which cost a rare 1800's coin, so Steranko derived a way to counterfeit that coin, but he needed a rare metal only found in a scrap yard which he had to sneak into, but unfortunately the scrap yard was owned by Victor Fox, who would only let him in if he provided an ashcan copy of a backissue Jack Kirby owned him, so Steranko devised a way to imitate Kirby's style exactly as it was in 1939. He just needed some funding to set this plan into motion.
>>
>>85055410
Jim plz.
>>
>>85055410
>>85055531
All this does is make me want Steranko to write a Goon story.
>>
>"Eventually they caught me and I had to give up my guns. I had many guns. A complete arsenal. My two pearl-handled .38s, 30 pistols, and countless rifles, we had .45s and a submachine gun that shot nine millimeter parabellum shells. I carried that gun home, walking along the streets of Reading with it over my shoulders, across my back, like you carry a baseball bat when you're a kid. And nobody noticed me, I guess, 'cause they didn't stop me. I was only in jail until my trial, about a month, and they had me in solitary with a 24-hour guard because of my history as an escape artist. They knew all it would take me was three minutes and I'd be out."

This motherfucker here will chew your legs off in a bar fight. I also would accept Jim Osborne, Bill Mauldin and Shigeru Mizuki--having your drawing hand blown off at the elbow in combat, then training yourself to draw just as well with your non-dominant appendage is pretty fucking nails in my book.
>>85055165
Me too--but there really is quite a lot if you dig deep enough.

If Steranko was the inspiration for Scott Free and Jack's wife Roz was the inspiration for Barda what does that mean about Jack?
>>
>>85059172

Not all writers like making self-inserts. I know whenever I write I tend to base the main characters around people I know and then borrow how I see myself for minor side characters.

Pick up his Funny Stuff book, it isn't what he's known for (fantasy) but it shows how versatile he is.
>>
>>85058181
Wow so he was hot
>>
>>85067674
I interviewed Hama a while back and with regards to Wolverine, I remember him saying that past issue #60 or so, he was basically just scripting whatever plots Bob Harras and the other editors came up with at the yearly X-office retreat. His stuff before that point was really solid, though.
>>
>>85076559

Wow, really? His run didn't really start to get uneven until around the build up to #100. Kinda fascinating to imagine that after around Mariko's death that's what defined the direction of the book.
