If you are to interpret Korrasami as something subliminal that happened during S3 and 4 istead of a last minute asspull, it's all on Asami.

She makes the transition from clingy friend to basically a female beta orbiter, trying to get Korra to notice her by constantly doing her favors and mooning over her.
And 90% of the time Korra barely acknowledges her existence unless she needs her for something.

The ending can basically be interpreted as Asami (maybe not even consciously) guilt tripping Korra into a relationship.
This is probably part of the reason I don't like the ending.

I think the point we have to look at here is the framing of the scenes.

In Season 3 Korra and Asami are chummy and that's how their scenes together also feel.
But at the end of the season and everything beyond it stops being about palling around and there's a lot of long gazes, emotional outbursts and the like.

For example I think there's a clear intention behind setting that scene where Asami brings Korra tea to a sunset, rather than at day or night.
That's a romantic mood lighting.

But I will agree that this was probably ship teasing at best and any serious effort on making them a couple didn't come around until the last minute.

The closest thing to ship teasing that occurs is the blush scene. The tea scene is so unimportant that no one even noticed the first time around it had happened. And even when knowing that it did and with the ending in mind it still isn't romantic, not even close. The same with you idea of emotional outbursts or long gazes. The tea scene is what the people who approve the ship use as further justification. But it's hollow and probably trying to call back to how Iroh poured Toph some tea in their meetup. Both seemingly gave each other advice but when Iroh tried to tell Zuko that he needed him, it backfires in the catacombs at Book 2's end yet it has meaning.

Asami talking with Korra during the clipshow fails because Asami wasn't able to get through to Korra because Korra just kept countering Asami's words and expanding her failings. Tenzin is the one who gets through finally showing an understanding of someone else but even that falls apart in the next episode.

The gaze isn't directed at the statue but rather the father and daughter who are together in the park enjoying the day.
If say, Korra had confronted Zaheer or if Amon and Unalaq didn't die and Asami saw Korra confront them and talk things out with them in their defeated states, then we could at least read it as Asami drawing strength from Korra meeting her past/opponents and moving past them.
But that doesn't happen until later.

Anyway, i really think getting opinions about this show on the internet is not the best option, because of how many people stopped watching it. Only two kinds of people talk about it now: brainwashed people that think it is the best thing in the world cuz lesbians, or the fans of ATLA that still cares about the series. The majority simply stops watching it if they don't like. My opinion: look at the numbers. Losing millions of viewers is a good way to tell if a show is bad.
