Northampton, Return to NY, etc... are classic storylines from the original comic. It's normal for modern iterations to take inspiration from where all started. In fact IDW and Nick both use a lot of elements from previous and various iterations (comics, cartoons, movies) they just use them in a different way which is interesting.
