Why can't they just act on the visions but not actually arrest people for crimes that they haven't committed yet? Just warn them off? Which appears to be what they're doing for the most part. Hawkeye was put on trial for murdering Banner, as he rightfully should have been, and he was acquitted because the Marvel populace are all a bunch of evil dicks.

Bendis.
Bendis thinks this is somehow compelling drama and a good reasons for Tony and Carol to fight. Because he failed to learn anything from Civil War I, like that you shouldn't make characters turn into morons just so they can beat the shit out of each other.

>>84996435
>Hawkeye was put on trial for murdering Banner, as he rightfully should have been, and he was acquitted because the Marvel populace are all a bunch of evil dicks.
That's because he's trying to turn Hawkeye into an allegory for racist cops.

Okay, I get why Tony's Teen Achievers (And Aren't We Proud of Them) decided to back Tony's dumb ass, but why would the X-Men bother coming along?
Tony has proved many times he does not give a shit about the X-Men.

I'd think I'd just stay out of it.
There are bigger problems in the marvel universe than "Who's right about future crime prevention".

Tony has two Caps and a Cyclops. He is obviously "right" here.
>>
>>84996767
Technically Hawkeye was on the New Avengers with Wiccan, Hulking, and Squirrel Girl at the time. Whether they've decided to let him in afterwards has yet to be seen, as Ewing has better things to do than follow along with Bendis' hackneyed plots.
New Avengers are busy fighting off Ultimate Reed Richards and his elite squad of New Revengers.

By writing a couple of good comics early in your career then spend a decade riding the coat tales of your own success.
>>
>>84997103
It wasn't Kurt. There was no Bamf.
>>
>>84996866
>>Why can't they just act on the visions but not actually arrest people for crimes that they haven't committed yet? Just warn them off?
>Because that would make sense and as long as Bendis is writing something there will be none of that.
And it's amazing the bullshit he uses to try and justify it.
Okay follow me here:
If you saw Captain America: Civil War, you can see how the Russos took Bucky's role in the story and used it as a logical reason why Steve and Tony's simple disagreement over the idea of Superhero Registration became an all-out brawl (especially in the final act). It took the premise from the comic, which made everyone act a little out of character just to get to the fight scenes, and added a personal element to force Steve's hand.
And you can see the wheels turn in Bendis' head when you read this book. He saw that element of Civil War and thought "Hey that's a great idea, make the grievance personal". But instead of starting with an argument and compounding it with a personal tragedy, he just killed Rhodey in issue 1 so Tony's been flipping out like a baby doing anything he wants and justifying it with "MUH RHODEY!" So now our "morally just side" instead of being a good man pushed into a fight he doesn't want has become a butthurt jerk who's been looking for a reason to fight for 4 issues.
And yeah Carol's clearly not winning any popularity contests in this, but if Tony wasn't so sure that this was gonna end in a fight (which he's been insisting since day 1) and just tried to help maybe she would be more inclined to listen to him.
>>
>>84996532

>You're under arrest

By who's authority Carol? Who the fuck do you think you are? You are not a Cop or a member of SHIELD...you don't have the ability to arrest people under the laws of the United States
>>
>>84996566
the art is pretty good, but jesus christ comic book writing is at an all time low.

1. introduce bad guys plan
2. hero fights bad guy
3. hero drops lame joke after winning

its not hard. enough with the awful, endless faggy dialogue
>>
>>84997145
>Well at least Bendis didn't put Clint in jail
No he just used him as a stand in for a racist trigger-happy cop. That's much better.
>>
Thanks for the storytime. I really enjoyed it!
>>
>>84997103
In the comic Kurt speaks up that he's against it and goes and talks to Magneto becausehe thinks something should be done. Or something along those lines.

But even the rest of the X-Men don't seem entirely on board with it but Ulysses helped save some mutant lives from the mist.

What sticks out to me about >>84996532 Is that Cage says in his book that the first Civil War really messed with him and that he had no intention of getting involved in this one. Him and Danny agreed to sit this out.
>>
Does anyone care about this event?
>>
>>84996532
This is the moment when you realize that Bendis spent so little time thinking about sides. We've hardly seen any interactions of the minor heroes that this comes out of nowhere. And why are any O5 on Tony's side when they are in the future to change the future?
Also, Optimus Prime?
>>
>>84996322
I can't wait for Spencer to reveal Capbik manipulating both sides from the start.
>>
Why does this event so slow? Why does it so long for the sides to he split and for them to fight?
>>
>>84997190
Actually, yes she does. She's the leader of Alpha Flight, which is the new SWORD. In the tie-in, Alpha Flight was given special permission over handling the Ulysses situation as they deem fit.

She's been recognized by the Canadian, American and Wakandan governments as having the authority to do exactly that.
>>
>>84997154
I,m not trying to defend his writing quality but isn't he writing around 5 or 6 books plus whatever side projects he has? Could he just be trying to o to many things at once and the quality is suffering for it?

>>
>>84997405
That's pretty much confirmed to happen in CWII epilogue issue. It's being written by Spencer and has Carol and Tony coming to the agreement that the only way to stop the war is to give Ulysses over to Steve since he's the only one both of them trusts.
>>
This whole conflict feels even more contrived than the first Civil War.
It's almost if like everyone is getting mind -controlled in to fighting each other when they know it doesn't make sense.

I don't think that's Optimus Prime. That's probably the hip and cool college-aged WOC superscientist that Bendis is desperately trying to push as the NEW AND BETTER Iron Man.
>>
>>84997487
>It's almost if like everyone is getting mind -controlled in to fighting each other when they know it doesn't make sense.

so Bendis is the real villain?

wait. wait a minute. what if Bendis was the real villain ALL ALONG?

it's not even "if"! Bendis was the one who drove Wanda crazy and Disassembled the Avengers! Bendis orchestrated the Skull "Secret" Invasion! Bendis put Osborn in charge!

Bendis is the final boss of the Marvel universe.
>>
>>84997585
>Bendis is.
>>
>>84997315

>>
I just kinda realized how much it'd really suck to be the average person on Marvel Earth. Especially right now.

The fucking heros end up fucking fighting each other over some bullshit, leading to villains possibly taking advantage of it.

Case in point, Secret invasion, which led to Norman Osborne's rise to infamy and power, all due to the calamity of the 1st Civil War.

Now what the hell's gonna happen in the 2nd one? These idiots of heroes fight and kill each other while my ass may be on the line due to a villain taking advantage of that shit. What the fuck are they gonna do to stop someone like Dormammu if he's planning an incursion to Earth? "Well guys we can't stop him, we're too busy over fighting ourselves instead of talking it out like GROWN FUCKING ADULTS"

It's just insane to me how these people are called heroes at this point. Real heroes don't fucking fight each other, just because there's a problem with a predictor potentially profiling others. They figure out what's the best thing to do in order to make the civilians safe and sound. Superman would've just said, "Look, guys, let's just not use this ability and do our usual thing, we've always saved the world even without the use of prediction."
>>
>>84998096
You know who it sucks even more to be?
People reading Bendis books.
>>
Am I missing something or this whole pre-crime thing seem very unreliable?

What if he dies?
What if he gets mind controlled/blackmailed?
What if he turns evil and starts lying?
What if his power becomes less reliable without him or anyone knowing?

>>
>>84996461
Worst writing, best art, in the entire event thus far.
>>
I kind of feel like the worst part of this event has been the inevitability. From the beginning we knew it was building up to the Civil War bit and so the characters literally cannot come to a better resolution. There's not really any organic buildup or development, it's just solely crafted to conform to the name of the event.

All so we can see a bunch of superheroes get smashed against each other like toys in the hands of an idiot manchild.
>>

That would be if he was getting information from future branches of the timeline, that may or may not happen.

Instead, he's getting current information from "everything energy" and calculating possible outcomes.

Time travel, diverging timelines, avoidance of bad futures, etc, are a real thing in this universe. Ulysses' visions would be about as reliable as, say, Cable's accounts of his (future) past.

But if Ulysses' visions are simply calculations, what's in question is not the future, but how reliable the "software" and the "hardware" being used to process the data, that is to say, Ulysses' brain.

Even if he can receive input from EVERYTHING, his brain may not be able to process the information correctly. If the process is in any way faulty, the predicted outcomes can be so far off from real possibilities as to be functionally useless.

A branching timeline may not be yours, but it exists somewhere in the flow of time, but Ulysses may be unintentionally making up the visions in their entirety. And how would you determine if they're accurate enough to act on?

Why are they trying to portray this as a right or wrong issue? Like, what the fuck is wrong with using Ulysses' abilities as a preventive measure to make sure Thanos doesn't get an infinity cube or help the Infinitum dude from Ultimates? Why does Bendis have to go full strawman with Carol by making her arrest people based on the predictions? It's so fucking stupid that I can't even believe it is a conflict. Hell, Ulysses' predictions being based on a mathematical system rather than a magic gateway to the future should make them easier to accept. Why is this even a drama with people like Madame Web around? So fucking terrible.

The problem is people are getting arrested without trial or evidence for an event that may or may not happen(Or at the very least, that's what they are going for). It's a very blatant violation of human rights since it can easily boil down to simply arresting people you don't like.
>>
>>85006575
Yes, but that's just Bendis strawmanning Carol to make Tony's side seem right. If they only use Ulysses abilities to make sure seriously bad shit (Thanos-level threats) doesn't happen there would be no problem. Except they went full Minority Report with it as if Ulysses is the first person with pseudo-precognitive abilities in Marvel.

I have to ask an honest question, but does Bendis even know this?

I'm quite honestly confused, because it's written as if Banner could Hulk out, but it's been confirmed in other stories that it's not possible for Banner to do that, since Cho has essentially stolen Banner's "Hulk essence".

And Banner doesn't even outright tell them it's not possible, but I'm guessing that he's assuming that he may somehow be able to reactivate his Hulk mode, similar to how Eddie somehow created his own symbiote, Anti-Venom, due to his cells having possible remnants of the gamma radiation mutation within them.

The "anti-Thanos missile" thing is from a Bendis reply.

They're just really strong, supposedly. It has nothing to do with Thanos himself.

Being a civilian in the 616 must be terrifying. Heroes can kill you family, and as long as they had even the slimmest reason, they don't get punished. Hell, you better hope your rapist wasn't once an Avenger, or chances are he 'gets help' rather than put away.

Sorta true, from the Blu-ray extras.

Does Carol has a plan on what to do after Ulysses dies (I assume he's not immortal) or if he just decides he doesn't wan't to do this anymore?

>Honestly, if you don't exclusively read Fantagraphics published comics then you need to go back.

Their mission statement exists familia.

Business as usual I guess. He can only detect major events. Like if there was going to be another 9/11, not at will either.
>>
>>85067764
He detects anything bad that might happen at all. It's just that the visions only happen when he's stressed so it started off with major stuff but then the crap the heroes do combined with all the apocalyptic crap he keeps seeing is snowballing into more and more visions.

Isn't Ulysses going to an hero before the end of the series? I thought the previews mentioned that tidbit.

I love how no one of the Inhuman royals is taking a stand with Carol even though she was always on their side.
>>
>>85069712
the inHumans don't really care about anyone
>>
>>84996566
Carol sucks. This event isn't nearly as interesting as it could be.

But I keep buying it because this art is beautiful. They're all so hot.

I weirdly like the cover on the left?

Please stop being the cancer that's killing Marvel and the comics industry. Do you read clickbait books too?
