Hello /sveg/, glad to see the place is still running strong. This week I've been bored and unproductive, so i haven't may any shitty edit yet.
On the other hand, I started making HS cards based on the show. Yes, I know it's dumb and pointless, but I'm doing it anyways.
I wanted to ask help to any anon who knows about the game if the cards I've made are somewhat balanced or broken, because I tried to be "as legit as possible" with them and not make them as merely "joke cards". Some good fellas have already seen them and they liked them, but the also pointed out some mistakes that I've fixed.
I'd like to know if you have suggestions for more cards based on characters (minions, spells, etc.), their classes and whatever else you got in mind. Or maybe a revision for the cards that got already.

Watching the first episode at the moment. Its kind of making me cringe a little bit. Does the show get less random after this episode or should I not bother continuing?

I don't mean to shitpost. I really do want to like this show. I like the character designs from what I've seen.

It tends to be like that, but it gets better, especially after the second half of season 1. There are still a couple of cringe moments, but theyre easily overlooked once you get into the rest of the show. Also, Season 2 is pretty clear of it.

The first episode isn't a great indication of what the rest of the series will be like. Star definitely seems less lolrandom only a few episodes later.

I'd say either stick it out for a few more episodes or skip around to see if you like some of the later ones better, but not liking the first doesn't necessarily mean you won't enjoy the rest.

I don't think it was a great way to introduce people to the series even though both segments do work to set the plot in motion.

It's always sort of wacky to some extent because the main character is from another dimension and uses magic, but the first episode really does throw a lot of typical wacky cartoon shit at you in a short time.

Later episodes (not even that much later) seem comparatively less "tryhard wacky" and usually have the weird shit actually form the main conflict of the plot. They also build off some of the stuff these episodes set up.

I feel it pretty quickly stops feeling random for the sake of random, but that's just me.

It's fine. I'm actually relieved. Sveg has changed a lot, had its ups and downs since the s2 premiere. Hell the mods don't allow me to post stories anymore, I'm a write fag who can't write. Come on Ama, we both know that's bullshit.
First off, the show itself is hardly predictable or dull, especially the characters themselves. When has Star herself ever been or done anything that was entirely predictable or dull?
Second, you can already see that the dynamic and relationship that Marco and Star have is both fun and enjoyable to watch, hence why people wanna see them together because their written well. And again, both Marco and Star hardly do things that are boring or predictable. With how fun their dynamic is now, just imagine how much more crazy it'll be if they become smitten with each other.
Third, no matter how big a ship Starco is and no matter how many people want it to be endgame. There's always the chance that it might not be and that Starco remains completely platonic. Until the show itself shows Marco and Star legitimately becoming a couple, it's anyone's guess as to how or why it happens and if it'll even happen at all. The show is great at keeping us on our toes to see what'll happen next and rarely does it do what we think it's gonna do exactly.

I don't ship Starco (don't ship anything for this show), but out of so many cartoons over the years where the main male-female characters get together in the end, the possibility of Star and Marco doing so actually makes sense to me and doesn't feel half-assed.

They already have a good dynamic, and unlike a lot of those male-female pairs they're not constantly fighting. I know some people like that cliché and say it means they like each other, "old married couple," etc., but it makes the relationship not seem so stable if you know they're just going to temporarily break up over some trivial thing.

I would be completely fine with Starco always remaining platonic or actually becoming a couple.

I just got done watching the first three shows of Season 2.

Man, has this show taken a tonal shift or what? The pacing now allows each moment in the episodes time to breathe. The music feels different, the animation was with frames? And not flash assets, apparently? It almost feels like the show had a reboot. Ludo even became self-sufficient and got his own fucking wand.

I mean I didn't dislike the show before, it was alright. But now I'm actually engaged. Considering how much changed about the show, I'm left guessing as to how the major plot points introduced are going to be executed. Wow.

Yeah, I agree. I guess that for season 2 they both had more time, experience, and freedom given from the higher ups, who were pleased with season 1's success.

And this season is animated by Rough Draft Korea (they draw traditionally on paper) and Sugarcube (so fare Fetch is the only Sugarcube episode), working digitally and less experienced, but still good.

I'm just not used to cartoons getting that kind of treatment and attention, so I'm feeling an odd cocktail of emotions right now. Baffled is probably the most prominent of them. With cartoons, it's usually take it or leave it, and once it's on, that's pretty much the way it will always be until it ends or gets canceled. And I know people will point to lore or world-building or whatever, but to sense an actual shift behind-the-scenes, to SEE that on the screen, I'm just baffled. But also pleased.

I sort of expected it to go this direction after the season 1 finale. But I guess that's because I always had hopes for the show to mix things up or go to darker places, and so that episode seemed to live up to my expectations and promise change.

I'm just glad that the show's finally starting to be recognized, even outside of these threads, as not being purely episodic.

I just watched the first two episodes (as in two half-hours)

Oh shit, the animation's by Rough Draft now? It looks so much better. I guess their time opened up without Gravity Falls on their plate. Also, Giancarlo Volpe's involved too? Was I not paying attention in season 1 or is he new to Star Vs. His episode was really good.

Marco's fight with the videostore clerk was fucking great. Although it still feels a bit weird to me when the story focuses on Marco and he's dealing with a plot that doesn't involve Star or Star-related magic shit. The "Star searches for a hammer" b-story of that episode was a goddamn waste of time though, there surely was a better way to use her in the episode.

That's what Daron said months ago on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/-9PcdiTBFB/ , but I think that they are actually both working at the same time. The first two episodes had only RDK in the credits, as the animating studio, while the last one had both RDK and Sugarcube, and it's extremely likely that Star on Wheels was Rough Draft's work, Fetch Sugarcube's one (the style is different, and you can see that the outlines are much cleaner, not drawn on paper). Also while high-quality the movements and expressions are stiffer and a little more tweened in Fetch

Thank you pretty much for your insight. Yes, the "if" cards are there to make it possible to play Star and Marco together, but besides that they're pretty much unplayable. At least I removed them from the theorical pool of spells so they're never created by RNG means. I'm trying to think of a better mean to get them together, but it seems they''ll have to remain "cleaved".
I'll tweak the weapons and the belts too, because you're right on the tempo issue. I'm a bad tempo player to be honest, and I guess this puts me in evidence. I wanted the belts to work like "Explorer's Hat", but the 3 mana cost is too much (and to upgrades it requires a minion to die, so I guess there's that. Maybe if the mana cost scaled as 2/3/4, it might work like an Explorer's hat that later becomes a worse Blessing of Kings that returns to your hand). Gonna take a look at that and at Star's Wand. Thank you so much for your feedback.
To be fair, Blizzard has also created pretty unbalanced cards, but that's why they never see any kind of play nowadays. (a.k.a. Cursed Blade, Poisoned Blade, Mini-mage, Hemet Nesingwary, etc.). So maybe having cards that don't see practical play ain't that "strange" in this game...

That's pretty good man, nice job. I like the coat on the Janna/Jackie fusion, but the Star/Jackie version is still the best.

Newbie here too, currently on ep 7, does this show have a sort of lore/world progression as in, for example GF or SU? or is it just random fun? i'd probably binge watch it all regardless since i have nothing better to do for the next 6 hours

Call me a lore faggot or whatever but i just love it when a show starts really innocent and awkward and it slowly builds up into something amazing, the last few episodes of GF were a roller coaster and the next week of SU is gonna feature some heavy shit
