I think it'd work. The characters are strong enough to stand by themselves in different situations. Instead of hard lining imagination we'd have something different. High school is a time where everything is super important to you. I'd see it as a rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead style high school show. All the drama is over there and the Eds just exist as the weirdos with varying existential understanding of life

I always pictured them in highschool with job's a already. Eddy probably working behind a counter getting nervous when Nazz shows up or pissed of a May just chills there. I picture Ed working at a comic shop, always doing something not related to work like making a pudding pyramid. I picture Double D balancing too much shit on his plate getting honor roll, interning at a lab, helping Edyy and Ed out of jams, and getting hit on by Marie and Sarah.

I can still see them getting the trouble. Driving around the fucked up van to concerts, working to keep it running. High school parties, and I thin Ed Edd and Eddy could actually do alchohol and drug episode realistically.

I would say that Arnold's room and Might Pete tree house from Hey Arnold! were both cozier and better hang outs, but the Van was definitely up there.
