Geoff Johns Confirmed as President, DC Entertainment

As his duties outside of comics grew, his comic book output decreased; in May, his final (for now) comic book titles were released: the 50th issue ofJustice Leagueandthe oversized DC Universe: Rebirthspecial issue, which started amassively successfulrelaunch of DC's superhero line in which creators worked with Johns to find new directions for the characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow.

Johns' new title is one of a number of changes to the DC hierarchy in recent months; a number of additional internal changes have been made including John Cunningham going from VP of Content Strategy to SVP Sales and Trade Marketing and Amit Desai from SVP Marketing and Global Franchise Management to EVP Business & Marketing Strategy, Direct to Consumer and Global Franchise Management

You know what, even though there's some stuff that Johns has written that I'm not really fond of, I can't fault the guy's enthusiasm for his craft and trust that he'll at least have the best intentions about wanting to write good stories about superheroes.

All his recent problems in the DC before he stopped writing are more due to the fact of him over-promising versus what we actually get in a periodical release. Maybe being booted upstairs will actually give him an outlet for those ideas more broadly.

Yeah. That can lead to some weird disconnect at times, like in JSA where an evil speedster is running through innocent women and children and a couple of pages later people are chatting about cute costumes and inspiring people.

Whatever his faults are, I think it's really cool that an everyday fanboy could take himself this far. I hope his story motivates more people to try to get into the industry.

The good-
He genuinely GETS & LIKES the DCU in a very traditional way. When he isn't tryharding his stuff is great so hopefully he can damage control the Snyder stuff.

The Bad-
He's still a company man & he'll only go so far for character integrity before he tells Diane Nelson 'yes Ma'am' to a really inane idea from high above. Also his favorites Cyborg, Jaime Blue Beetle, & fucking Stargirl will probably get obnoxiously pushed as a new DC Trinity.

The Ugly-
The Shazam movie will probably be based on his reboot with Gary Frank. God help us all....
