That reminds me of those mix and match animal toys from mcdonalds/taco bell 20+ years ago. You'd rip them in half and mash the halves together to make new animals.

There was a Disney cartoon called mixanimals or something like that with a similar premise from around the same time or earlier, that cartoon and those toys could be related, but I'm unsure.

The one you posted makes me think of a situation like pound puppies, where they revived a decades-old toy line with a shitty cartoon, maybe this is the cartoon reboot of those fucking kids meal toys. Who knows.

Well, the point was that they were basically biologists and saw the cryptids more as endangered animals than actual living weapons.

It was a pretty interesting move, to have the scientists actually treat the subjects they work with seriously and non-abusively, but it did make for a slower paced show. Which I personally liked.
