So this actually occured to me while watching the trailer for Suicide Squad: what if it's on purpose?

When he first came out in the fucking 40s, suits and shit were still worn on a literally daily basis: a nice suit was standard day wear for anyone in the middle class. Tail coats were WAY the fuck out of fashion, though, and face paint? Who the fuck WEARS that? The Joker wore a purple fucking suit with a green tie. He was meant to look like a ridiculous fucking idiot. That was the whole point of his look, and you know what? Jared Leto's costume nails that, completely. He looks like a moron trying to act 'crazy' and 'threatening' and 'weird', while actually, in fact, genuinely being all of those things.

The Joker has always been a tacky looking jackass who is also a murderous lunatic. That has always been his thing, and this Joker absolutely nails that, aesthetically.
