In Egypt, Cairo specifically, Islam is not very fundamentalist. She was there before the whole noise with the Salafists rising up, but even now the Egyptian people actively fight against fundamentalist ideas and people.

Speaking as someone who's grown up there, Egypt has certainly slid backwards towards conservatism in the past decade or two but it also attempts to claw its way forward.
