Okay so looking at what has been said about the Iron Matron, we've been told out-of-comic that Poppy's strength IS possible for anyone, since Morbworld has no physical limits.

Logically then, IMS (which I assume stands for Iron Matron Syndrome) has less to do with freakish muscle, and is more likely to do with a freakish heart beat.

Poppy's heart beat is shown to be pretty amazing, looking at the dragon fight. But she also has a 'heart condition', and possums with IMS often die young.

No, I think he just needs to make his story more engaging instead of banking on background elements to carry things along. I loved the start of the book but lately I've had trouble caring due to the way the conflicts are carried out. It's not very satisfying.
