Well... it's over? At least in its first season though it could pull both the co crowd with Grunkle Stan and the tumblr crowd with Mabel.

Its finale did set records though for Disney XD which aren't even that big, but I dunno, maybe Star will pick up more steam throughout the season. The Ludo and red belt episodes were pretty rad.

I think we're sort of re-setting the stage. We've been gone for a year so writers are kinda "setting the stage" and reinforcing characterizations.

People need to be reminded Star isn't exactly smart with earth-culture, that Marco is a bit prideful and concerned about BIG THINGS (often missing other things).

Pretty sure after the first 4 shows we'll see a more plot-centric sort of sub-plot occur and the writing will be more on-point.

I don't really mind it. Stuff is still happening but the review-vibe is there.

I went through my clips and unfortunately I didn't record this. It was Marco, fresh from the shower. He used a hair dryer to unfog the mirror. He purposely selects a different and counts the swipes under each arm.

He sprays his cologne of choice into his wrist, sniffs it. He spritzes the air to his left. This whos while timee have the pov of the mirror and can not see the toweled lower half of his body. He steps toward the cloud and falls over something.

Janna pops up after the perfume falls on his ass. When he asked why she's there we find it has to do with Star, who pops up on the other side of our boy. He complains about the cologne and Janna smacks his ass and says she likes it.

It's one of the unfortunate cases where they overemphasize a character's trait, in this case a negative one, as the foundation for the episode. Star would obvious be able to just jump off, but for the sake of the episode she's staying on.

Had they given a one off line like, "Okay Star now be real careful, I can't afford another bike after what happened to last one." Or something along that line that requires Star to keep the bike intact then it wouldn't need to rely on Star suddenly forgetting how to act. Either way, it's not a huge gripe in a comedic episode in my mind, as long as she doesn't begin to regress as a character overall.

It started as silly talk and discussion about how chill and easy going Jackie appeared, leading to the idea that she must be cool with being naked. This lead to more talk until green text stories were written, my Nervous Anatomy story being notable, and then an actual story was written by the writer Folly-Cola titled "Nudist Saga" where more characters start getting into it.
As for why more haven't been written or seen, I guess it just hasn't caught on with other writers.

Needs more than a single moment, the show is in desperate need of some new flavour to support episodes that are actual regular characters. It's all well and good having the occasional tertiary character play a part in an episode, but when it becomes a common thing the show is going to suffer for it as people don't give much of a shit about one-two off characters, without the prospect of development, however minor, later on.

See that's the one thing it's really struggling with in my eyes, outside of Ludo and Buff Frog there's no other developed secondary characters. Only girl that needs development is Jackie, and that's obviously going to happen but you fags need to be patient. She was receiving complaints about not having character development as far back as the second episode; give the show some damn time.

Also Janna is definitely showing up more in the future, so there's two. Arguably Skullnick makes three since she got some development last season, but waaaah she's not kawaii enough for fan fic material. Possibly even Moon this season, but all everyone here cares about are her nonexistent hips.

Sabrina, Hope, Chelsea, Andrea, Leah, and who knows who the fuck else are worthless background characters that don't need episodes, and StarFan13's nothing more than a gag character who's gotten the exact right amount of screentime so far.

Now he just has to show up again and contribute something interesting to the show. Which really shouldn't be too hard as he's an interesting secondary character, particularly due to his ties to magic and magical worlds. Would be easy to setup episodes around the guy.

The shows had plenty of fucking time, and whilst a good portion of it was spent solidifying the solid main dynamic between Marco and Star, any series needs secondary characters to move things along to avoid getting stale. It gives the main characters a variety of things to bounce off of, even if the secondary characters aren't that important, it's better to utilise commonly seen characters over one offs when generating a setup for an episode, once that's done one off characters are alright if they serve a purpose and/or are appropriate for whatever setup was put in place.

Yeah, but any development Jackie gets at this point will necessarily have to be linked to action on Marco's end. The first season did about as good a job at progressing that as you could expect it to, with every time Marco actually interacted with Jackie moving their "relationship" forward a bit more (except Cheer Up Star and Marco Grows a Beard, where she just made cameos). It's gonna feel sloppy and unrealistic for them to be suddenly dating or something just so we can see more of Jackie, and this isn't the type of show to have an episode from her perspective this early on-- Ludo was at least a pretty major character last season.

Basically, if you wanna see Jackie, Marco's gotta nut up first. We already know about as much of her personality and temperament as we could for her not even being a secondary character yet.

I mean, I guess it could be argued that making Marco constantly drop spaghetti around her is limiting in terms of plot/writing, but that's clearly a part of his character by now and that has to be overcome first. They could also always have Star interact with her instead, but people are already complaining about this season having too many episodes where Star and Marco are apart (and there wasn't really any opportunity last season for that to happen either).

I mean, I want it to happen in the future too, but so far every season 2 episode we've seen has been moving the plot forward a bit and didn't really need more characters added in.

It also seems like a lot of people don't give a shit about the secondary characters we already have or just want more hot girls. Where are the Buff Frog or King Butterfly greentexts?

See that's the thing, we don't. Secondary characters don't have to have a considerable amount of focus put on them to be developed, sure it helps, but the main point of a secondary character is a distinct individual who plays some part in adding to the narrative of the story, usually through developing the main character or plot. In doing so they get reflective development, the viewers learn more about them and can quite often quite like them as distinct characters.

My point here is that whilst Jackie is obviously tied to Marco as a supporting character, we could have still learnt something about her in the time she'd been given in the first season. All we really now is she skates and is chilled out, a few more scraps of information can make all the difference given one of the main characters has an entire sub plot focused around her. The same can be said for other notable side characters like Alfonso, given that we know their whole basic personality going on, but it's rather superficial. Which is interesting given Ferguson is a bit more well developed, he's shown genuine personality and traits that make him distinct from just a narrative device.

At the end of the day the main dynamic and magical adventures are the life blood of this series, that's why there's been complaints about the early season 2 episodes as those main dynamics haven't been at the forefront of the show as of yet. Star and Marco have been forced to act apart and whilst that's welcomed when appropriate, too little of them interacting is not driving on your strengths as a series. Now that the exposition seems to have gone, and the odd Red Belt episode is passed we look to be somewhat heading back to the norm, hopefully with some secondary development in tow.

The show just has a real simple 'to do list' to really play off its strengths from season 1, and it's not quite done that yet which is suitably disconcerting.
