For me it was when the Darth Vader comic established that Geonosis was dead and lifeless only for it later to be revealed in Rebels that the Empire built the Death Star there.

Lucas wrote himself into a corner with this Dark Side Light Side thing.

Dark side will always automatically be labeled the bad/evil side. There's just no getting around it. No matter how much you muddle it up or retcon.

That means all Star Wars stories are going to be the same bullshit over and over.

Dark Side always loses to Light Side because good guys etc. And if by chance Dark Side gets ahead, some mary sue Light Side character is gonna beat them all at some point.

The Sith and Jedi thing could be interesting, because the Jedi have been shown to do some pretty fucked up shit. That's why I liked Clone Wars so much because it showed how the self-righteousness of Jedi to be the cause of their fall. The Sith were still stereotypically evil. And all of that still falls back on this Light/Dark side crap.

Other than that, the writing for both sides has been total crap. Good vs Evil trope needs to die and be replaced with something less stupid.

The challenge is telling interesting stories worth telling inside the world George created.

But in the end, it's designed to be for everyone. Universally simple - in the form of a space opera. Its story and themes are presented in this way, because they are the ones that remain and reoccur in our world the longest.

Did you know that the original Star Wars came out in a time where basically all fiction being produced was very cynical, filled with moral ambiguity and "dark" stories in general?

It was a breath of fresh air to the audiences at the time, helping to bring back optimism to movies and fiction in general.

Star Wars is a very expansive franchise, so there's certainly room for both ambiguous stories aswell as more classical Good vs Evil ones, but if you think they should just stop with the latter, you should probably just give up on the franchise, as it's probably never going away as it's a very vital part of what made Star Wars what it is today.

There's no reason you can't have both more morally grey stories and have the Dark Side be objectively evil. Especially since the Dark Side is canonically the asshole side. The more of an asshole you are, the closer to the Dark Side you get. The whole point of it is being the side you turn to when you get driven by bad juju like virulently hating someone or wanting a lot of personal power. Even when it's strictly Good vs. Evil, you can have a spectrum of personality in between, even if the superpowers themselves are color coded.

The Jedi were dumb in the PT and its offshoots partially because they were supposed to be blind to their own weakness, and partially because of poor writing (mostly in the movies). All this means is that the good guys need good writing and plotting to back them up. Especially because an integral part of the universe's narrative is falling and redemption, which necessitates evil characters that are not completely evil to their core.

The KotOR comics are a good example of what you can do with this without breaking the canon. The main character is about as pure as they get in Star Wars, while his teachers are oblivious zealots and the villains are varying shades of scummy gangsters, driven conspirators and tyrants, and petty slave drivers.

KotOR II is a kind of a story that we don't need a lot of in Star Wars because it would break the setting in half, but is a great example of how the setting itself can be examined in such stories. Star Wars has proven its got a lot of room for a lot of things, and I think there's a lot of potential there in all of it if they get creators who honestly try.

You know, canon and continuity (surprise, surprise) is important to me. I see DC and Marvel continuously flip-flopping over whether canon is important to making a good story or not. Without fail though, they fuck it up, and then pull the "good stories should trump continuity card!" (DC has done this a lot since the New 52 in particular)

But the fact is, if you have a strong canon/continuity, then the fans will be more heavily engaged in the entire franchise, actually WANTING to read it all. And the creators will be more respectful of other creators works, because they know that their content is only as important as how they see everybody elses.

Once you have that mentality, you can understand that canon (especially in fantasy/sci fi media) is incredibly important and can overall improve the quality and enjoyment of the material you engage in, even if a lot of the continuity maintenance can just be considered fanservice. If you can actually prove that everything is important, then obviously the fans will be more excited/interested in it all, and the writers will take it more seriously and even accept when the LSG asks them to tweak and change things.

Obviously there will still be bad eggs like Chuck Wendig, but just think abut how much worse it would be if Chuck was allowed to freely shit all over canon? Right now his biggest crime is mediocre storytelling, and some shitty writing.

My own humble opinion though, is that it's fantastic, one of the best comics we've had thus far, with a great variety of content and action and humor. I saw a theory on reddit where someone who finished the book made this theory that she was the daughter on an ancient sith lord, as Jakku is an old sith homeworld (Kinda like nucanon Ziost) before it was destroyed by a jedi superweapon and that Rey naturally picks up force shit because absorbed all the force energy around her and can unleash it like a weapon. Now that Saw is a part of the live action movies, I've finally buckled and decided to watch Clone Wars.

The problem is, I don't have a lot of time and I'd like to watch the most important parts, including the episodes he's in. Is there any way I can skip through portions of the seasons or is every single episode necessary for enjoyment?

You have enough time between now and December to watch it all. I don't like telling people to skip certain episodes and arcs, I tihnk the series works best as a complete viewing. There are one or two skippable episodes, mostly Jar Jar ones, but on the whole you'll have a greater experience watching it all together. I doubt Lothal has many kyber crystals since Ezra only found one little crystal in a force vision. However crystals were being transported near Lothal and from old galaxy maps that the story group uses we know that 1: Lothal is next to Morriban (which probably has tons of kyber crystals since it's the Sith homeworld) and 2: Lothal is probably a stop on the Hydian Way. I bet you they found a huge crystal under Morriban, then transported it to Chandrilla and went the rest of the way on the Perlemian Trade Route to Coruscant where it could be processed and taken to Scarrif to be placed on the Death Star.

But when Anakin was forcefully killed off it force Jacen into being kept alive, which led to Traitor. And Traitor is still my favorite Star Wars book. Star Wars: Clone Wars. Note the lack of an article. It was by Genndy Tartakovsky, the Samurai Jack guy, where it took a lot of its visual design cues from.

Came out around the time of Episode 2 to 3, if I recall. And was the original bridge between them. It's also a lot more out there for a Star Wars story, so people get into arguments about it. Doesn't help that Lucas apparently didn't bother to try and communicate properly, so every got all hyped up for Grevious.

I had a conversation about this a few months ago, I ended up using the same picture of twins. It's pretty cool, really, how genes in one section can effect how genes elsewhere in your DNA express, so racial traits are likely not just specific genes but how specific genes interact and can cause genes that people of two races share in common to nevertheless behave differently.

I recall reading an article on an attempt to domesticate foxes and although they were breeding for behavioral traits the end results is that the foxes were looking more doglike, specifically in their coloration and tails.

One of the reasons I like how Cut's adoptive kids looked how they did. Hybridizing, especially between alien species, is going to be pretty wacky. Similarly the Dathomirian Zabrak have a completely unique horn structure to other Zabraks. Of course I don't think either of those was planned, it just worked out that way. Maul definitely didn't since the journey to Zabrakhood is a bit of a roundabout one.
