Oh please. Steven's only used this ability once before by accident with the melon Stevens. He in no way shape or form actually desired to body-jack Lars with malicious intent. This was a freak accident,since he hasn't even tried using that power or had any concept of using it after the Cluster incident and he was so flabbergasted by the transfer (and his usual tendency to try to get preoccupied with helping people his own way) caused him to not even think if he should, like, go see if Lars was inside his body back at the beach house.

The Bubbling and the shield are the only powers he's gotten a real handle on (not counting the use of the teleporter;) nearly everything else he's displayed as having is random and/or uncontrollable at this point unless it's passive like him being a bit stronger than a normal human, immune to Gem-disrupting weaponry, and/or more durable. He activated, and subsequently lost his healing powers and even though it was like, 80 episodes ago the only kind of shapeshifting he can use without some horrific body horror backfire is to make his limbs a little longer and lin the last episode he definitely didn't keep them that way for long because of what happened the first time.

The majority of the gems we've seen have at one other ability besides weapon summoning, except for where it seems to replace the weapon summon.

Pearl has hard-light constructs and Lion-like item storage
Ruby has heat
Sapphire has cold and future vision, last of which Garnet shares
Lapis has water control
Peridot has metal control
Rose had plant/healing/empathy(?) powers

I'm really happy this episode covered Stevens apparent ability to astral project/interact with consciousnesses from a distance, because I believe it supports one of my theorys.

My theory is this: In Mr.Greg, when Steven starts singing to Greg and Pearl about talking to eachother, they all change colors and disappear into some sort of weird background. I believe this is more than a stylistic change for a musical number; I think Steven acted as a sort of psychic catalyst/median between Pearl and Greg, which brought greater understanding between them. I think Sugar is going to use this ability to have Steven bring peace between gems and humans once and for all.

I think the levitation is something any Gem can learn with practice, like shapeshifting. It's a natural ability, and they can instinctively use it in one way (forming their default body, adapting to the planet's local gravity), but with enough focus and skill they can learn to use it differently (forming into different shapes, altering their weight for super-jumping). Fusion for him wasn't about the dance moves.

It was about a meaningful connection with the other person. All his powers were emotional after all.

If you watch his first attempts at learning fusion dances, it made it seem like it was all about the steps and dance technique, which he struggled with and seemed stressed about.

With Connie he just had fun and connected. If he emotionally did the same thing with the Gems, it probably would work.
