What part of 'desperate ANAD Sales shtick' was unclear? It's not normal for heroes to get mentioned in other heroes books. Time was crossovers between titles bluntly didn't happen. This shared universe shit is a fairly recent thing in the comic timeline. Peter's in his own book doing his own shit. If you see a character, especially a recent media darling like Kamala (who turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable if I'm honest) or someone bland and by the numbers like miles, or the Nova no one wanted you're seeing Editorial desperately trying to get fans to take an interest in certain characters.

Miles isn't the main spider man. Miles will probably never be the main spiderman. In fact he, Kamala, and Sam will be very, very lucky if they even exist 10 years from now. Marvel purges teenage heroes on a pretty regular basis.

Hell, technically "Secret Wars" negated all of the deaths in "Spider-Verse" due to the potential of Franklin Reed just up and recreating the universes as they were before.

I honestly assumed that the wanton death and destruction in "Spider-Verse" was Slott's way of exploiting an ending of "Secret Wars" in which all of the universes coalesced into a single New Universe, "Crisis on Infinite Earths" style. But no, Marvel just used it as an excuse to finally get rid of the Ultimate Universe while still saving Miles.

An exaggeration (crossovers have been happening for decades), but I do remember when there seemed to be less (major) heroes and a crossover was something special. Not really an exageration, early on in marvel you saw stuff like Tony Stark showing up in Shield Comics to debut this or that gadget for Shield but he was rarely, if ever, iron man in those books. He was a genius inventor and that backed up his identity in the wider marvel universe.

Crossovers did happen but they were special events in and of themselves. Justice League changed that to a degree but it's gotten to the point where crossovers between characters on the mainline are nothing to be excited for. If you're lucky the writer and artist got the okay to use a character they liked. If you aren't editorial is pushing their latest darling until the new paint gets chipped.

In a more general way, there are nostalgia and anti-nostalgia cycles. The late '90s was super-nostalgic with everybody trying to get "back to basics" (most famously, Morrison bringing back the traditional JLA and Busiek doing the Avengers in the Bronze Age style).

Then there was a backlash against that and the early '00s superheroes were more anti-nostalgic (Morrison's X-Men, Ultimates). Then there was another nostalgia cycle which Slott contributed to as author of stuff like Spider-Man/Human Torch and the Brand New Day reboot of Spider-Man (so nostalgic it even brought back thought bubbles).

I think for the past few years we've been in more of an anti-nostalgia cycle, and now nostalgia is seeping back in again, so Marvel has announced a flashback miniseries about the early days of the Avengers, and DC is fully Johnsified.
