Yfw Charlie Brown canonically get's all the hoes
> Lucy
> Peppermint/Patty (There were two apparently)
> Marcie
> Little Red-Haired Girl
Absolutely based.
>>
>>84497947
On the first comics, Charlie Brown was a HUGE jerkass to her. Way worse than she is to him.
>>
>>84497947
Look, Charlie Brown doesn't HAVE to try and kick that football. And yet he does because he enjoys the impossible challenge the 1% chance she'll let him or because he's a fucking retard who will never learn.

He doesn't HAVE to fly his kite so close to a try and yet he does.

He likes to suffer. He's the type of guy who would do a full LP of Ride to Hell and make a yearly tradition of streaming Bubsy on Twitch.
>>
>>84498752
I bet he has lots of subscribers. Hell if he was a Overwatch stream he probably lose every time yet keep playing because he never gives up.

I remember when Peanuts was ending, there were a lot of huge betting pools about what would happen in the last comic. Kicking the football was a popular choice.

WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? This is adorable!
>>
>Peppermint Patty
>doesn't have a mother (either died or abandoned her)
>loves her father more than anything else in the world, he calls her his "Little Gem"
>She isn't the smartest kid
>her father works late
>Patty gets anxiety from having to stay in the house all alone, especially at night
>can't fall asleep until her dad comes home
>since she never gets enough sleep she can't concentrate in class which makes her appear even more unintelligent then she actually is
>has a totally one sided crush on the most complete loser in the entire town
>not the prettiest girl but has self esteem issues because Charlie Brown's crush the Little Redhead Girl is so beautiful

Schlutz said that Peppermint Patty was the only other character strong enough to have their own comic.

reminds me of that Charlie Brown harem anime idea that was tossed around a couple months ago in another Peanuts thread;

basically Snoopy is actually a magical dog from space, and gives all the Peanuts girls Magical Girl powers, and he needs Charlie Brown to take on the Tuxedo Mask role to aid them, and obviously this is all complicated due to the usual problems that come from being Charlie Brown

I think there might have been a little more to it than that but that's all I can remember at the moment

A Yuri story where Marcie has X number of days to get a girlfriend/boyfriend for a dance.

Because it's Marcy, her intelligence is her only strength as far as a potential mate would go; she's relatively dull looking, socially inept, and has no style.

How would a visual novel with all these girls work? Should each route even have a happy ending instead of the standard bittersweet stopping point.
>>
She pulls the fucking football because it's the fucking Christian overtone messaging about always giving people the benefit of the doubt.
That's why Charie Brown is such a God-damned loser, he's taking the bullshit advice that they spoonfeed to every damned bastard idiot child ever imprisoned in Sunday-school for an hour a week.
It's not the big-bad scary feminists that are making half this thread wet their man-panties right now who wrote this crap, the *man* who wrote it was a typical White Christian Male named Charles Schultz.
It's some "wholesome" bullshit that stuck-up white pricks in smalltown America think is funny: bullying someone who doesn't fight back, over and over and over again.
Peter Griffin should have brought a gun and finished the job so that little bitch could burn in Hell for what she did. Too bad he couldn't do the same to Schultz, that prick's already burning in Hell.
>>
>>84506175
Having a straight up happy ending would be sacrolidge. Uncomfortable child sex endings are the only way to do it.

Someone make this great monstrosity.
The end of some routes end with a nice little kiss and a hope for tomorrow only if you know where to fail.
Other routes let you go full playa on the girls only to feel ashamed afterward and fearing the consequences of what you've done, the feeling that you will never be clean no matter what you do because as Charlie Brown you just bumped uglies before you were ready and meta as you the viewer feel great shame for fapping to it afterwards.
>>
>>84506175
there needs to be a All Girl Harem ending, hardest to pull off but the most satisfying(also ignore what >>84506247 says, the "Charlie Brown can never have a happy ending" trope is beyond tired at this point)
>>
>>84507283
It's also a staple. Also it's not that he can't be happy. It's that he can't win.

Yeah, but this isn't one of those times. Charlie Brown without losing is half the character. He's so enjoyable as a protagonist because for a person who loses SO MUCH he eventually comes to terms with it. If you want a character who just has victories, there's many other characters that'd fill that role. Charlie Brown's victories are seldom because that makes them much more special when they happen.

I'm sure most guys are like this, and they don't even realize it. I consider myself incredibly beta and lonely, but I got into a discussion with a more popular friend about it, and he was telling me that I've gone on far more dates than him, gotten more girls numbers, exchanged more nudes, and was able to get laid before he was. It had never even dawned on me until he shoved my face in it, and I'm sure Charlie Brown is the same way. He's so obsessed with wanting to be loved, he's oblivious to the fact it's right in front of him.

Though, that simple fact won't fill the void and longing within him.

Don't pop a blood vessel. If I read you right, you're defining Schulz's moral as being "Charlie is right to always give Lucy a chance, because that's virtue and fairness."
No, I think if the point was ever that, it had evolved within five years to "Charlie is a good guy, but a sucker."

Abusive relationship with his wife? Schulz was the one who left her! Had an affair with a 21 year old before marrying his 2nd wife. He also thought the little red haired girl was the love of his life.

I love Schulz but the guy had problems. He would always complain about how in high school all the kids and teachers were out to get him, but when interviewed years later if they could remember him the students and teachers didn't have anything bad to say about him.

Charlie Brown was a little bit more biographical then Schulz would probably admit to as he always was paranoid about the world being out to get him, but in reality he was the rich, well loved, well respected creator of an American Icon. Like Charlie Brown never being able to see all the bitches that loved him, Schulz could never see how well his life actually was.

>>
>>84529942
Yeah, she had a big crush on chuck but

a) she was into typically male activities at the time, and was better at sports then most guys
b) she didn't wear make-up or try to look pretty. In fact she was sort of known for dressing rather androgynous with her flip-flops.
c) her best friend called her "sir"
d) She was created in the 60's before it was ok for girls to do these things.

Peppermint Patty truly was the most tragic character from Peanuts, though. Many times it was implied that she wanted to look pretty and be feminine but since she didn't have a mom and lived with her dad she just didn't know how to be girly.

a lot of tomboys existed in the 60s though
>>

>>
>>84530060

Yeah, they existed but they were weird, where now they're normalized. Compare Betty Cooper from Archie now where she's the adorable girl next door compared to the 50's where she was portrayed as crazy.

Jo's Tomboyishness in Little Women is seen as a character flaw that she corrects by the end of the book instead of being accepted for her boyish nature. A tomboy is something that's fixed by the end of the story or played for laughs, not an endearing trait when Peppermint Patty was created.
>>

When I was a kid, I thought Peppermint Patty was a boy and was gay for Charlie.
>>
>>84529648
The affair happened BECAUSE Schulz wasn't happy with her. By the time of the affair, both were already miserable together. IDK if she was physically abusive like Lucy was to Charlie Brown, but I know she wasn't supportive and was quite the nag who just puts you down. As their relationship deteriorated, Lucy's character became more and more obnoxious until we got what she is known for today.
>>
>>84532234

>>

>>84534674
But then why not just say "I do not wish for Peanuts to be continued by other people"? It's like he's shifting the "blame" on his family.
>>
>>84534984

I think you're mis-understanding me. His first wife was his consolation prize after the little red headed girl got married. He never loved her and of course that marriage eventually ended with him having an affair.

Have you watched Bojack Horseman? Think of Schulz as a much more successful Bojack. From all accounts Schulz was depressed and miserable, but for the most part it was he himself that caused his misery. He often talked about small slights that people did to him years and decades past, but when interviewers talk to the people they never remembered the slights they did to him.

I'm not complaining, mind you. It was Schulz's depression and idea that the world was out to get him that made Peanuts so great. A happy Schulz couldn't have made a character like Charlie Brown or Peppermint Patty. But it's important to separate the artist from their work.

>>84535052
This was a common theme with Schulz. He never took responsibility for his actions or decisions, it was always outside factors that forced his hand. This applied to the Christmas special, the movies, marketing, etc even when people remember him making the decision, it was always CBS\The animators\ Marketers\Family\etc.

Going by how his family adored Schulz and how he still did the comic by himself despite most other famous cartoonists have the strips done by aids (see Garfield) it probably was his decision to end it, but Schulz would never actually own up to a decision.
>>
>>84530181
Tomboys weren't considered weird, they were considered normal. Probably dad's favourite.

It's only now where any girl who enters a natural tomboy phase is likely to get abducted by the queer patrol.
>>
>>84530034
A lot of people straight up thought she was a boy. She was the only girl to wear a shirt and shorts instead of a dress.

She's honestly one of the most interesting parts of Peanuts. She was originally conceived as the main character of her own strip before getting added to Peanuts, and it really shows. There's a lot to her.

My actual assumption is that Shulz had nobody to base them off of and the aspects of his personality they represented/were drawn from, faded away as she got older and more famous.

Society changed drastically over the years too, Lucy's character can transition smoothly into being a feminist during the sexual revolution. Violet and Patty, not so much.

Personally I just miss there being characters older than Charlie Brown.

>>84543724
I have to think that although the girls did like him, they don't anymore. Think about it, Charlie used to be very alpha in his manner and that made the girls prefer him over the others, except Schroeder's babyness. Now he's stuck in his self pity and that absolutely disgusts them. The only two girls who have feelings for him now are girls who are equally as self-conscious and find an equal playing field with him.

I'm not shitting on him, I love Peanuts! To get ready for the movie I read the full 50 years of strips along with \Co\.

But the truth is that Schulz was a flawed individual. Which isn't a big deal, I'm not perfect, and neither are you. As a big Peanuts fan, though, I'm interested in how Schulz's life shaped his work. As mentioned above Lucy is based on his first wife and to a large extent that explains Lucy's cuntishness. Early on in the strip they were a happy couple and Lucy and Charlie have a much more friendlier relationship. By 1969 Schulz had moved out of the house half a continent away to California, and by 72 they were divorced. Lucy from those strips on tends to antagonize Charlie Brown.

If you just look at the strips then it looks like for no reason Lucy becomes a cunt after being friendly with Charlie Brown when she's younger. If you look at his life you sort of understand Lucy's cuntishness.

Charlie Brown loves baseball. He loves playing it, watching it, he loves collecting baseball cards, trading cards with his friends, etc. He's just really really bad at it.

BTW, people doing the same thing even when they shouldn't is a constant theme in Peanuts. Every year Linus waits for the Great Pumpkin, even though he's always disapointed. Lucy always flirts with Schroeder, even though there are other guys to flirt with. etc etc etc.

After all those years of Charlie Brown, you seriously think he's pretending to be depressed? And clearly that advice doesn't work enough since Charlie Brown is still miserable and professional psychiatrists have to have more tools than "shout at them that them their life isn't that bad and then kick them out". I wouldn't be surprised if for every person who gets a self-realization from advice like that, there are several more who continue to be depressed or finally bite the bullet.

It's not that he should expect professional advice. It's that if Lucy can't give anything of value, why bother. And the useless and sometimes hostile sessions is just another mark on why people hate Lucy.

>>84569644
Which one is the good advice? The "get friends" advice which Chuck knows, or her telling him he's too crabby (which isn't even Chuck around most people). And it's not like Chuck doesn't have friends. I think the biggest problem is that Charlie Brown's life is fine. Like he fails a lot and he's always depressed, but he also has things he's good at, many times unconsciously. But those aren't the things he loves. I mean through sheer effort he managed to win spelling bees up to the championship level and only fumbled on one softball word and managed to feel like garbage, despite beating out MANY MANY kids before him.Lucy's not much help either but he's not really helping himself by going to her in the first place.
>>
>>84570115
It's not really good if it hasn't actually helped the person.

And that's classic lil shit Charles. Modern Chuck wouldn't demand people to like him. He'd just mope about it.
>>
>>84569957
I don't think he's pretending to be depressed, but it still might have worked. It's still the only way to truly beat depression. How can you expect to stop being miserable if you don't try to.

Lucy's pretending to be a psychologist because kids like to pretend to be adults, she just finds psychologists more interesting than nurses or shopkeepers or housewives
>>
>>84570192
That's not true at all. Like >>84570187 has said, the misery is all Charlie's fault. He's an amazing speller, punter/thrower, racer, marble shooter, and gets good grades. The issue is he can't look past all of that when he doesn't come in first place or makes on little mistake. It's probably why the kids treat him like shit because his negative outlook clearly grates on their nerves.

Seems like a modernized design to me. See >>84516485 if you want another of Chuck being an ass.

The thing with depressed people is they don't think they can beat it. It's a mental disorder that keeps you down in the dumps. People don't like being depressed, but they don't see a path to being happy. Especially if attempts to move past it are met with failure time and time again.

And she could do all that without charging money for quack advice. It's clear Lucy mainly does it for her own benefit rather than actually helping people.

>>84570442
There are people with 6 figure salaries and extravagant lifestyles who still feel don't feel satisfied with life and figure they'd be better off dead. Being amazing at stuff doesn't matter if it's not making you happy.
>>
>>84570595
The movies tend to pay homage to the originals, but towards the end of the strips life girls started wearing pants more often than skirts and dresses to fit in with the time. Peppermint patty and Marcy don't ever even wear a dress(except the one strip where PepPatty is forced to)
Also towards the end Lucy and Charlie Brown seem to be on better terms.
But yeah, Violet, Patty and definitely Shermy stop appearing in speaking/important roles sometime around the mid 80s.
>>
>>84570679
>There are people with 6 figure salaries and extravagant lifestyles who still feel don't feel satisfied with life and figure they'd be better off dead. Being amazing at stuff doesn't matter if it's not making you happy.
That isn't exactly relevant. Charlie's issue for feeling like shit is that he can't do anything right and nothing works his way, when in reality only baseball and the kite seem to go wrong for him. He's even scored some points with the little red haired girl before. His issues are his own fault and if he'd stop psyching himself out he'd be much more successful with people as well.
>>84570726
Doesn't matter. Classic is when Charlie Brown is still a punk and not a complete loser. Modern would be when everyone is stuck in their roles. The strips I pulled up are neither, but still relevant to him being an ass at times.
>>

But his surviving family is and they seem diligent in keeping his last word in effect. If they weren't, Peanuts would actually get new strips instead of just cycling through Schulz's library over and over.

Lose to who? They own the rights and control who gets limited usage to them. Only thing that will separate them is them willingly selling them off. I can't see that happening when they stil make 2 billion annually just from the strips.

I'd say Charlie Brown might even be there by the end of the strip. No ages have been confirmed since he said he was 8 1/2 in 1975. He and Lucy seemed much more mature by the end.

Yeah but it doesn't explain why someone can go from a baby to a coherant child in a year's time but no one else ages in any significant way. Schroeder does it and then Linus so the fact that it happens twice means the older kids would at least be middle schoolers.

Shroeder and Linus were "babies" but they hadn't only just been born. Charlie brown went from "not even 4" to 6 in the same time. I wouldn't be suprised if Violet was a middle schooler, she even seemed to be in the early stages of Puberty in the CGI movie.

Then again Rerun exists so whatever.

>Charlie Brown brings most of his misfortune on himself
>always has to bring up how sad and pathetic he is in almost every conversation, even if the original topic wasn't about him in the first place
>even swerves the conversation to something else he can whine about even when the conversation is supporting him (Patty's crush on him is almost always shot down as he starts in with his continued depression over the Little Red Haired Girl)
>doesn't ever try to actually fix his failures, prefers to wallow in his own self pity

I would think having a sad sack as CB around constantly bemoaning his own existence even when his actual friends (that he pretends he doesn't have when he's feeling sorry for himself) are there to support him will eventually cause some of them to retaliate, starting a never ending cycle of him moaning, them giving him reason to moan as they are sick of him moaning, etc. etc.
Even Linus got sick of his shit on the rare occasion.

He has plenty of friends, what with Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, Franklin, Marcy, Peppermint Patty, Pigpen and Rerun actually willingly hanging out with him, and the dog tolerates him enough.

Lucy's just a little kid who thinks it's fun to pick on Charlie Brown as he makes himself such an easy target and hardly ever fights back.
Patty and Violet in the later years of the strip were much more venomous towards him.

Actually all of his 'oppressors' were the girls as it was very rarely that any of the boys joined in on the insults unless Chuck royally fucked up something fierce.

>>84573891
ah man, i love peanuts, but this is a refreshing dynamic. i like to imagine that the evolution of the strip is actually its continuity --- charlie brown used to have no self-awareness, and was a grade-A alpha child. once he grew up a bit, though, he started doubting himself, and no longer tripped girls at bday parties with his boi shermy. He just stayed home, and halfheartedly continued to participate in the activities he remembers enjoying, but doesn't anymore -- like baseball.

too close to home.
>>
>>84574179
I'd like this if Shultz ever gave it closure with him finally becoming alpha again. Shermy stayed a boss while Charlie become best buds with a young kid who is slightly less pussy than he is. Too bad it was never expanded upon.
>>
>>84573689

I thought the effect was cool. It's like for the Rayman Ubiart series, it's fine as long as it stays to its origins with that style instead of being in complete 3D because it could look weird like that.

Schultz PROVES moreso than any other artist that using your limitations properly can make an evocative and instantly recognizable art style.

Peanuts should be studied on that front -- i am still blown away every time i see a golden-age strip or one of the original Bill Melendez animations. It's as indescribably distinctive as anime, if not moreso.

Then what's your point?
It doesn't matter if they exist, it's the fact the world DOESN'T see it the same as it was back in the day, back before the millennium hit.
Your common normie are more than likely to call a tomboy a dyke/lesbian and when you use the word "tomboy" they'd go "what's that?" Face it, thanks to societal norms any girl/guy that prefers to do the opposite they are supposed to be, they get labeled gay by proxy instead of just being a tomboy/flamboyant.
