Grieving for that sort of loss is harder than grieving for an author's death or a story's natural ending, for the same reason that grieving for a missing person's death is difficult. There's always that voice, at the back of your mind, whispering something absurd: what if he's not dead?

Because what if the Epilogue came back to what made Homestuck good? What if Hussie, ten years later, returns to the comic and rewrites the last third of Act 6 and gives the comic the ending it deserves? He still could. There's always that stupid hope. We'll never be over it until Andrew Hussie dies or posts the epilogue with a big THE END or makes a formal announcement that there will be nothing else.

I feel it was good. It was ambiguous enough to leave you guessing in regards to what happens next. Lord English is practically dead, and Sburb has ended, so the characters have the potential to do anything without it ending in a fucking offshoot doomed timeline. Honestly, it wasn't nearly as cool as Collide, because Collide was fucking awesome, but the ending wasn't meant to be cool. It was meant to be open for interpretation.

I honestly think Act 7 couldn't have been any better than what it turned out to be. This was a story that took 7 years, 8150 pages, and hours of animation. There's no way every loose end could've been tied up intricately in the ending, unless you want an ending that's another fucking thousand pages long.

The epilogue will probably focus way more on the characters and shit.

HOW-FUCKING-EVER, that ending was more of a political maneuver. Hussie was too busy with Hiveswap and the likes. Hollywood had their attention at him and shit. Delaying any longer would be prejudicial. Revealing a taste of what's to come wouldn't.

By releasing Act 7, Hussie bougth time for himself. Right now, he has welovefine to milk Homestuck further to reacquire funds for Hiveswap.

As bad as act 7 was, it was the best he could have done in a terrible situation and it may have actually worked.

I didn't say it was good because it couldn't have done better. I believe it was good because it's ending allows for many possible things that can happen. Does Vriska survive? What happens to Jack Noir? What happens to the ghosts in the Dream Bubbles? Do they cease to exist, or are they left behind? It's your decision, as the reader. In the end, Homestuck is about a boy and his friends and a game they play together. This was wrapped up. They won the game. They didn't fuck up and give their universe cancer. They didn't fuck up and reset everything. They won, and now they get a universe full of potential for anything to happen.

The final battle is Collide. The confrontation Caliborn describes supposedly happens after Act 7, or possibly before it, but the kids are alternate versions? I will admit this is something I wish was explained, as well as what happened to Gamzee.

So the highbloods who can afford to have others pull them out of a fight have a vested interest in making themselves not-handicapped again so they can fight. A lotta sponsorship went into prosthetics. From prosthetics comes test-harnesses, and then full-body test cassis to carry multiple prosthetics to speed up testing. Give that chassis some rudimentary sensation and avoidance routines, and you have your robots.

Yeah, I use an old Bamboo Pen tablet I got for like $70 maybe five or six years ago. I don't think they make the model anymore, and I don't know how the Intuos compares, though. I mainly use FireAlpaca with AntiAliasing turned off for drawing and Photoshop to organize layers, animations, and other edits. FireAlpaca is free, and I think one of the older versions of Photoshop is free, too. Macromedia Flash MX 2004 is also free if you want to try flash sometime haha

Using a tablet can take a while to get used to, especially if it isn't a Cintiq, but I've seen artists do amazing stuff with just traditional media, so don't feel like you have to go and buy computer stuff to make art!

Throughout the story, it's obvious that none of them are leaders, yet a lot of them would like to be. Karkat may have been the first one introduced, but he is not the most important one.

The closest thing they have to a leader is Vriska. You might not like it, but she held the most influence on the story, having laid the killing blow on their session's Black King, the one to ultimately confront Lord English, and the one who affected the post-Retcon timeline the most.

Karkat's still my favorite though.

I personally went for the cheapest option since I draw as a hobby and it was my first tablet. I have a Wacom Bamboo tablet, but I think that model is out of manufacturing. Closest thing next to it might be the Wacom Intuos. There might be a visual disconnect when you are drawing, though, since the image doesn't appear on the tablet itself where you draw. Plus the smaller tablets, while cheaper, might be harder to draw large, sweeping lines on due to the small working area on the tablet.

Definitely DON'T buy the expensive ones for your first digital tablet, though. And also look into other makers besides Wacom since they might be cheaper or have better customer service. Wacom is a safe choice otherwise.

Here were the things I drew from Homestuck before I read it, based on the fan content I saw:

That seems to be the role he played over the more traditional, competent leader. It was a facet of his character that I enjoyed, in that he aspires to be this capable warrior/leader and makes damn sure he gets that role when the opportunity arises, given that he was unlikely to get it normally as a mutant. But even though he gets the role he doesn't fully understand what it constitutes and as such, whilst he cares deeply for his friends and does what he can to get them to work together, he does so in a manner that really isn't all that leader like from our perspective and the downsides of that show through eventually.

Then he's introduced to these aliens, in particular John, who really is doing what Karkat wanted to do as a leader, getting these people he cares about to work together in a positive manner. I wish the story had gone more into this, it was one of the numerous things which made Karkat such an interesting character and is also why it's so damn unsettling what happened to the guy.

I expected his lack of actual competence as a traditional leader to be brought up, given that whilst he got his group to function it was done in a rather crude manner and there were obvious issues that ballooned into massive issues under his watch. His acceptance of this in Act 5 was perfect, he was at his lowest point given both Murderstuck and having just accepted that he hadn't actually done a very good job as a leader when he'd thought and been told he had done til that point. There's tons of what if's we could go into regarding the troll group dynamics, but with Karkat in particular whilst he was considered the leader and got the trolls to work together somewhat, he really didn't do that competent a job.

The problem is how muted their interactions are after the retcon as a whole, Dave and Karkat were at their best when there was some level of antagonism between them. It made sense as well, Dave's ironic subversion naturally wound Karkat up whilst Karkat's stubborn and over the top reaction to everything got under Dave's skin. Their best interactions were during this openly antagonist period, with their interactions during the run up to Game Over as friends with a less antagonistic but still barbed way of going about things close behind. After the retcon it's just so much less interesting, same for the other characters of course, but Dave and Karkat in particular were just less enjoyable or flat out different in a non-positive manner.

There's also numerous other issues with the ending that people would take issue with, but I do agree had the interactions been better than some of the hurt may have been dulled. But the reality is that it wasn't and that's one of the big issues people have with the ending.

There's just some very staunch posters who consider her a sue with poor reasoning. Though there is truth in her poor utilization as a character, but that's on Hussie's head. The reality is she could have been a more interesting character than she was and was highly capable among a sea of weenie characters, but even still she was an enjoyable and positive character for the narrative, despite not being fully utilized. Sometimes a character can be enjoyable without having oodles of problems, though, again, that would have been more interesting.

I probably would've liked the retcon more if we got more info on the meteor trip post retcon. How does an irony-obsessed coolkid with brother/daddy issues get together with a hotheaded troll obsessed with leadership? I want to see how that happened, it could've been cute and also funny. We saw how it happened with Rose and Kanaya, and the retcon didn't change that.

I would've appreciated an extra intermission or so that goes into the meteor trip. Not as detailed as the original, but much more than one flash animation.

Yeah exactly, that's one of the biggest if not the biggest issues with the retcon. We don't get to see what happened to these characters and they end up acting different than they used to. Had we at least seen what happened then things may have been taken more positively. Though again that's a pretty big what if with the whole Dave and Karkat situation.
