If you didn't notice by all the rambling on about Time and Space aspects not being all that different from Calliope, or a lot of the other clues from before, aspects are these concrete, set in stone features of the game. They're just kind of suggestions, and there is a lot of overlap and a lot of contradictions between them, and how they end up actually working out in the game depends on a lot of other factors like class, individual's behavior, etc.

If you were to get picky, you could say that Light's "fate" bullshit just guides you to the one "good" path, while Mind tends to more objectively present the player with their current options and lets them make the decision. But that is probably just a general guideline, and not a hard rule.

Both Jane and Dirk did, the difference is it wasn't a cause for massive drama given Roxy did it with the best intentions and, initially, under the influence of alcohol. Being pushy in a positive manner pays off a lot too so it's easy to consider it as less of a flaw, but it does still have actual downsides just like other flaws you listed, e.g. Jake being introverted, John being naive.

As for not thinking things through, she seemed to just react to things and have them work out for her because the plot had gone into free-fall by the time she could influence anything in game. However, that didn't stop her from doing things wholeheartedly on a whim without fully thinking them through. Again it may have worked out for her in the story but it doesn't stop it being a flaw when it does have negative connotations.

The point there is that she has behaviors that could be considered personality flaws, but the poor writing glosses over the potential negatives of such behaviors for conveniences sake. Those flaws can still be identified and attributed to her as a character, and do have some effects in the comic. The problem is that they're not followed up on very well, the best example of that being the tension between her and Jane that's just glossed over, like Jane as a whole. It's hard to develop individual characters when their supporting cast are all effectively ignored past a point.

But I don't know what else to say, I think she's a fine character, among a really shitty supporting cast, who wasn't utilized as effectively as she could be by a writer who was losing the plot. Certainly not a Mary Sue, just capable and positive where most other characters can either be one or the other or neither.

I would disagree, you can still see flaws with her character even if the big elephant in the room, in the form of the alcoholism, wasn't handled effectively. Hussie's the one to blame for that, given he failed spectacularly with the other Lalonde with supposed alcohol abuse issues.

Either way, Roxy wasn't a stand out character but she was fine and contributed to the overall story in a distinct positive manner. Fuck knows what you mean by:

Jade completely changes character twice during the damn comic, if there's anyone to use as an example of character writing done right it's not her, even if she is a likable character. You could just as easily make the argument for Jade being a mary sue with whatever loose definition is being used here, certainly early on in the comic's lifespan. I'm pretty sure that was a common complaint given her knowledge of the events transpiring ahead of time and the fact that all 3 of the kids got on very well with her and that she lived alone for most of her life on a remote and mystical island and had a magical dog and was a capable nuclear scientist and was musically adept and had some connection to the game world ahead of everyone else.

That's kind of the point the previous anon was getting at. Roxy has traits which could have been character flaws, but if a trait doesn't inconvenience the character or mess up anything meaningful, then it doesn't count as a "flaw" from a writing standpoint.

Well I suppose I can't really disagree with that; one of my biggest pet peeves with Act 6 is the lack of follow up on interpersonal developments like the Roxy Jane situation.

But I would still stand by the sentiment that Roxy was alright, despite the poor writing in the personality flaws department. Positive and capable characters still have a place in a story, they can still be enjoyable as individuals or be enjoyed for their effects on other characters.

Lost potential stands out as the key connection here, and on that I cannot disagree. However, that same issue is present in pretty much every single character in Homestuck, so really it's par for the course in my mind, Roxy was just more enjoyable at the point where other characters folded.
