It sucks that Starlin left Marvel.

I loved his space stories, I am afraid we won't see much of Thanos any more. Warlock was cancelled, Captain Marvel sucks, basically Marvel Cosmic is being bad right now.

Will it ever get good again? I have heard the new revamped X-Men will something cosmic called Shii-Are but I am not sure if it will be good. The new Claremont stuff is OK but it's no Starlin

Comic books were something you went to the news stand in town to get, and where I was from, almost everybody was too poor to afford them anyway. I had one buddy who ordered them through the mail, and I read the whole 'Days of Future Past' story in floppies over at his house one afternoon.

Alright I'll stop damaging the time stream but before I go, I'll post one last thing.

In the decade before the decade I'm in now (the 2010s), television animation was dominated by a combination of anime wannabes and cartoons that looked like more expressive and dynamic versions of the UPA styled cartoons that dominated the 60s. Unfortunately, this decade is dominated by cartoons so ugly that I'm not going to show them to you.

The cartoons closest looking to the 2000s cartoons and the best looking cartoons overall of my days are a Voltron (80s toon based on an upcoming mechs anime) revival and pic related, a full on, 22 minute long revival of the Peabody's Improbable History segment that has the duo hosting a talk show.

Contrary to popular belief, most people in the late Seventies were not at all listening to punk rock. The media and music critics made those bands seem far bigger than they were. Even Ian Gillan said "I saw Judas Priest in '77 during the height of the punk movement and there were several thousand kids there. Punk was a media-driven phenomenon and most kids just stuck with the more conventional bands."

Time traveler back, Muslims are followers of Islam, the world's second most followed religion.

The problem people have with Muslims in my time will be sown in a few years into the future of your time. The Soviet Union will unsuccessfully attempt to invade Afghanistan and America, in response, will arm Salafi and Wahabi Musilsms (those who follow a radical, fundamentalist branch of Islam) who just happen to hate the Soviet Union with first grade weaponary. At the turn of the century, this decision to arm the radicalists will bite us in the rear massively as they turn our backs on us and reorganize into terrorist groups suck as Al Queda and ISIS, the former which will destroy the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001.

Actually no, RR was always himself for decades before becoming president. Back in the late 40s-early 50s, he worked as an informant for the FBI to rat out Hollywood communists. In 1960, when he was still a Democrat, he strongly disliked Kennedy and considered him a dangerous socialist, though he must have had a change of heart when Kennedy made tax cuts a part of his agenda later on, so much that Reagan as president would even invoke Kennedy when pitching supply side economics.

Most of the definitions for Baby boomers are 1946-1964, due to the spike in birth years after WWII and the following decline in birth rates after parents got easy access to the birth control pill in '64.

However, oddly enough, the most common definition for Gen X is 1961-1981. 61-64 seems to be a weird "crossover" period between the two generations.

It was originally designed as a way to ensure that the political leaders of the two sides of the Cold War could be guaranteed a way to stop the nukes flying.

Civilization might survive a thousand or two nuclear strikes. But a hundred-thousand plus? No way. And yes, there were approaching a hundred thousand nukes in the world during the Cold War.

So, the Internet Protocol was designed to get a message through as long as anything was left, so they could try and stop before there was nothing left.

Generations are hilariously broad. At times, millennials have been defined as anyone born in the period from 1977 to 2004; we're looking at 39 year-olds and 12 year-olds and trying to link them together into a generation.

This is true. In the 70s, half the world lived in a totalitarian gulag and Africa/LatAm were being torn asunder by US/Soviet proxy wars. Europe also had rampant terrorism from the IRA, ETA, Red Brigades, and Baader-Meinhof Gang.

D&D's ruined, man. Ever since they introduced the dumbed-down Basic Set, you have all these 12 year old twerps trying to get into it. They totally sold out to get that wider audience.

Yeah, but the takeoff of Dungeons and Dragons was a legitimate sea change in the industry and war game hobby, and the moral panic itself was something you can kind of peg numbers on with Patricia Pulling and shit.

I'm a 90s baby who didn't get into things until the new millenium but I always found the history of those really early years of TSR and DnD pretty interesting.

One of the guys who worked on this movie is going to make a movie for that Lupin show in Japan. Do you guys think Japanese animation will ever hold up to Western animation like Disney, Baskhi, Laloux, etc.? Wouldn't it be crazy if Japanese animation became so popular /co/ would have to be split up into two separate boards?

>>
>>84418412
People were also either pissed or praised women getting more significant roles in movies. So it was not that different from now.
>>
>>84418412
The Cold War was kind of put on the backburner in the 70s, but then it really wasn't because proxy wars between the US and Soviet Union continued unabated and raged across Third World countries as both sides funded local insurgencies and organized coups against governments. Cuba was widely employed as Moscow's attack dog in Africa and Latin America while the US supported military dictatorships due to their anti-communist stance. Europe was afflicted with leftist terrorism, all funded and supplied by the KGB and Qadaffi's Libya.
>>
>>84418553
Hollywood was also experiencing a golden age after being liberated from the Hayes Code in the late 60s.
>>
>>84418674

not everywhere had shitty economy lol. West Germany was booming back then not so much Ossies. we had incredible music scene in the 70s, also lots of sexual revolution, FKK culture, feminists, students protesting Vietnam, nuclear energy, and everything else. of course there was a lot of terrorism back then too like Baader Meinhof gang.
>>
>>84384916

Well, we kind of did because Reagan challenged the Soviets to an arms race they couldn't win.
>>
Why does /co/ seem to have a hateon for the 70s? That decade had GOAT movies and music. Were they not progressive enough for this board?
>>
>>84418412
>>84417898
The early part of the decade was an extension of the 60s in terms of the music and protests and Vietnam still going on. By mid-decade of course that was over and things got a lot quieter.
>>
>>84419489
True, however this is the Comics and Cartoons board and in those two categories this was a pretty bad decade for all concerned due to an unfortunate mix of economic and demographic reasons.
>>
>>84419498
1970-1974 was the Nixon era which was still an extension of the 60s

1974-1980 was the Ford and Carter years which were much different
>>
>>84419626
The Carter years in particular were a lot different with the hippie era being a distant memory, music being taken over by punk and metal, and of course computers and video games were becoming a thing while they didn't really even exist when Nixon was president.

Gallup polls showed that far fewer Americans in 1978 had an optimistic view of the future than in 1972. The recession a year later was the kick-in-the-pants, a mounting conservative backlash was coming against the excesses of the Sexual Revolution and with the economy in the toilet (and AIDS soon around the corner), that was kind of the end of coke-fueled disco parties.
>>
>>84418698
>golden age

Anon, the code years were the golden age. Aside from a few New Wave directors, most 70's films were trash.
>>
>>84419489
>That decade had GOAT movies and music.

Aside from a few cherrypicked examples, not really. And even the supposed "GOAT" from the 70's were just ripoffs.

*cough*Zepplin*cough*
>>
>>84419751
>music being taken over by punk and metal

Punk and Metal were never that big, they were part of the larger backlash against Disco.
>>
>>84418412
There was also the first wave of political correctness with feminism becoming mainstream.
>>

>>
>>84420605

>>
>>84420476
>Anon, the code years were the golden age

You could argue about the 30s-40s, but the 50s-early 60s were quite bad due to TV depleting a large part of the movie audience.
>>
>>84421435
It was more mainstream, but hardly dominant.
>>
>>84421459
What was dominant then if not metal.
>>
>>84421535
Soft rock and pop. Metal was a pronounced sub-genre.
>>
>>84421457
>>84420476
And also the 80s was the worst decade of Hollywood when character-driven plots all-but vanished and almost all mainstream films were sfx-driven cheesefests.

The thing is that that was pretty much what Spielberg and Lucas had started, except in the 70s they were revolutionaries. In the 80s, everyone copied them and so Hollywood kind of suffered as a result.
>>
>>84421559
>using Top 40 as a good measure of anything

In other news, the Carpenters got a lot more radio play than Black Sabbath.
>>
>>84421571
>except in the 70s they were revolutionaries

Ripping off Hammer Horror movies and westerns isn't revolutionary. And Spielberg is very much a director in the vein of Robert Wise.

The 80's wasn't the nadir people make it out to be, it just had more blockbusters because it became a proven model.
>>
>>84421596
>using Top 40 as a good measure of anything

It is a good indicator of what more people liked at a given time. We're arguing about success, not quality.
>>
>>84421651
Nothing's truly _original_, but their approach to it was fresh. And yes, the 80s was a very very cheesy decade for both music and movies because the culture of that era emphasized technology over the hippie-dippie spiritualism and "finding yourself" of the 70s.
>>
>>84421730
>but their approach to it was fresh

They were aping French New Wave, Samurai films, and British Horror. They were good at it, but it wasn't really novel.
