How about a recent purchase/bookshelf thread after new comic book day? Here are the latest ones I've gotten.

Is the TMNT book good quality? It looks nice but is always priced a little higher than I would like.
>>
>>84341436
I haven't actually read it yet but it definitely seems to be well put together. It's not too big and it looks like it has a tight binding. I usually favor paperbacks since I am a poorfag but I got this mainly because it came with the micro-series issues (and the story from the 30th anniversary issue) spliced in between the main issues in chronological order, that way I wouldn't have to go back and forth between books.
>>
>>84341570
I used to have the first book that IDW released. It was incredible quality so I think I'll pick this up soon.

Fucking great, but I loved the books before they were comics, the art in Eye of the World tends to change issue by issue, but the general look stays the same and it reads just like one of the books, minus all of the descriptive writing for the characters / places.

I'm really fucking upset that book 2 never got adapted into a comic because that's when shit gets good and my waifu appears

>>
>>84351852

Its quite good, I've got it in floppy, If you like Brubaker and Philips' other stuff you'll like the fade out, it reminds me alot of the movie LA Confidential, has alot of the same themes played out in different ways.

Story opens with a screenwriter named Charlie waking up after a hard night of drinking to find a dead starlet in his apartment and no idea what happened.

Just spirals from there. Hopefully the collected editions include the essays from the end of each issue because they were fantastic.

They're both a little ragged, but Veitch's run is OOP (in the UK, at least) so thought I'd grab them while I could.

No Regenesis, unfortunately, which is the one before these two that picks up where Moore left off. Going to scour a couple of shops tomorrow since I'm in a different city for the weekend and I don't think they went OOP too long ago, so there might still be some lying around.

What do you think of the Supergirl omnibus? I love the way the hardbacks look, but sometimes the thicker hardbacks are difficult to actually read because they're heavy or too tightly bound.

Its the dsII special edition guide.

And yes .Neonomicon is pretty rapey. I bought it thinking it would be a cool lovecraft comic but its fucking terrible. Worse yet, it was my first introduction to Alan Moore. Now i don't even want to read Watchmen.

Latest. Going to be picking up Deadly Class Deluxe and new Luther Strode this month.

Metabarons was a fantastic fever dream. The way the narration was done kind of annoyed me even if there ended up being a reason for it. If anyone hasn't watched Jodorowsky's Dune, I'd highly recommend that you do. Tons of ideas for The Incal and Metabarons come from that failed film.

that thing looks like it's really going to break apart any second.
just buy one of those cheap billy or finnby shelves from IKEA, the finnby series is especially solid, even more so than the billy series. I've got a few of them and stacked some really heavy books into them for about 2 years now, no complaints.
>>
>>84360857
Yeah, I'm aware the shelves are bowing but it's because alll those records on the bottom were at different places on the other shelves, and they weighed too much. I think they're just permanently bowed like that but not under the same amount of stress causing it now.

Still, I'll obviously get something else in the future, thanks for the suggestions.

Not really. The rapefish strongly resembles Dagon and other Lovecraftian fish monsters, but Lovecraft was famously prude when it came to sex and his stories never featured any explicit rape or sexual material of any kind. You can kinda argue that Lovecraft's bizarre fear of sex comes through in his original stories as sub-textual, but that's debatable at best.

>>84356848
Moore himself has admitted that he was in a bad place when he wrote Neonomicon and that he may have gone too far. I love Moore's work and I hate Neonomicon. Don't let it put you off from his otherwise great bibliography.

I have two ikea in reasonable distance of me (miami and orlando) and they still want like 150 dollars for shipping on a 100 dollar item.
>>
>>84367100
well it's not the weight of it that's the problem but the sheer size of it. most IKEA stuff is build of ready-made items which are 7-8 ft tall, that doesn't fit into your regular mail package.
most of the time it's more reasonable to actually cross the state border with a pick-up, buy all the shit at IKEA you ever needed, eat a few swedish meatballs and then drive back home.

The first one is the physical version of the digital version on Steam. I got it from the 'Gamer's Edition' they have on the Devolver Digital store, though there might be a stand-alone version soon. Aside from the comic, the other main thing i got it for was the notebook describing how they designed the characters (Biker's hoodie, for instance, partially came from Ben Reilly)

The second one isn't a book, its (most of) the soundtrack to HLM2 on record.

What's your favourite Star Wars book?
>>
>>84376021

Really depends how I'm feeling. There is something for everything in SW /co/. Dark Times for feels and grim atmosphere. For fun and 'that Star Wars feeling' I would have to say Knights of the Old Republic; it has a fun main character and cast, and expands nicely on the setting, being too early to rely too much of PT/OT tropes.

Is it worth buying the Gotham Central omnibus?

I'm in the market for a new omni, but I am not sure which one to buy. My choices are:

1) Gotham Central Omnibus
2) Shang-Chi Master of Kung Fu Omni

I have never read ANY of these. Suggestions? I could afford ONE a month (maybe). Order of purchasing ideas? I know I want and can afford at least one.

>>84414623
This is undoubtedly a really nice collection with a lot of thought put into it - but every time I see it I can't help thinking how sterile it is.

Do you have a bunch of random trades or things you've picked up not displayed - or do you find yourself planning quite a lot of what you purchase before hand - so pick up more omnibuses and weightier editions.

Don't mean to sound like a dick. Genuinely curious as to how a collection like this develops. Most shelves I see tend to 'tell a story' (as faggy as that sounds) - where you can see more shit that doesn't belong, personal guilty-pleasures and the like.
>>
>>84415606
Yeah. I know my shelf looks like a "best comics" list. I was digital only for years, so I have a very huge backlog of stuff to buy in print that I've already read and would show more of my personality. These were just the first on my list that I got a good deal on or bought first because I fear they may go OOP.
>>
So what do I dig into next, Miller's Daredevil, Uncanny X-Men or do I just start getting Hellblazer TPBs?
>>
>>84415606
I would say this buying behavior is due to omnibus getting so much attention - a $100 hardcover used to be something for hardcore fans, but now it's the most economical way to get a large run collected, making it appeal to casuals and hardcore fans alike.

Plus what used to sell out in years can now sell out in months, so everyone gets hyped over preorders and everyone ends up owning the same shit.

You can tell this is pretty much true because nearly everyone's collection was printed within the last 5 years and because seriously, there was no reason El Eternauta should have sold out and shown up in as many shelf porn threads as it has.
